Okay, so here we go. I have all the parts i can think of that i will need. Another part of the factor that i am going to possibly pursue is the downpipe room. If it gets to be too much of a pain in the *** getting the DP in, i am going to rip up the interior, cut out the floor board and modify it that way. I have lots of dynamat and hightemp sound proofing to finish. Just dont want to spend a whole day trying to get a dent in the firewall. So in about an hour, wish me luck, we should have good weather but itll be a rain or shine kind of deal.
Most important question is this... does the down pipe make a parallel exit from above with the ground? or will i need some kind of moderate elbow attached? Just want to know how it exits at the lowest part. slight angle, steep angle, parallel to the ground? Thanks!
Do you have a sawsall? If you do use that to cut the pinch seam in 4 or 5 places. That makes bending that seam much easyer. The down pipe exits parallel to the ground. If you have 3" exhaust a band clamp works great to join the two.. Good luck!
ill give that a try man, thanks. As for the dp, that is good news, itll go to my four inch system but will it shoot through the cross member or under it?
Man i got the **** handed to me today!! hahaha. Broke even though. Whew! And i didnt even touch the truck. The damn housing bolts were a pain in the *** big time. Three and a half hours to get them out. Wound up cutting each of the heads off and then popping the old housing off. WTF is with the dinky *** 12 pt heads on something like that? Either way, i rehabed the whole setup, ceramic coated the exhaust housing, up pipes, oil drain pedestal, etc etc. Check the pics, looks way better. Oh and i found the little plate from ford/international. haha. covered in grime. Its also a .70 compressor and .84 exhaust, is that stock? either way, heres the pics. Till tomorrow you fiend!! hahha
ah good eye! hahaha. Yeah got it Christmas before last. lol. So if all goes well today, it is going in. Might not complete it but my goal is to at least briefly start the truck and check for oil leaks. Well at least check for new oil leaks hahaha.
Wow, this is more fun than i thought, hard part is all the crap that comes up in between the install stuff, like life......sigh. Getting there. Got the fuel lines rerouted, trans tube modified, firewall is getting there, electrics covered in high temp wrap and sleeves, exhaust dropped and pyro pulled, pyro bung welded into the new cross pipe @@@(note below) and all kinds of other things. Just felt like i got nowhere haha. So pressing on, tomorrow is the finishing of fuel lines, completion of firewall modification and a mockup of the turbo in the truck with exhaust connected so i can start it. heehe. Cant wait. Im fried!!!
@@@ with these ATS systems, anyone ever drill and tap the exhaust y piece? Seems like a hot spot for gasses from both banks, Or is the right next to manifold flange on one side better? Thanks!
on my ats setup I drilled a hold in the crossover pipe that comes off the drivers manifold. It was easier to get to and drill through than the cast areas.
Its better off as close to the cylinders as you can get. I drilled and tapped the drivers side exhaust manifold and it wasn't too bad at all. Think about why you are putting the pyro gauge on. Most people want to watch that to make sure they aren't melting pistons, so you want a temp taken as close to the pistons as possible.... exhaust manifold!
Other kits come with the crossover or up pipe tapped because most people don't have a tap set at home and would rather just screw something into an existing hole, than try and make their own.
Whew, made some good headwind today, bad weather is creeping so i got all the hard stuff like firewall, exhaust, dipstick tube etc. I have to reroute two fuel lines, and cover one set of wires with a high temp sleeve. Almost guys, sorry its taken so long and looking back, i didnt even need to bend the firewall but now i have lots of wiggle room. I had to cut away the factory heat shielding under the passenger side floorboard so i will probably score some more high temp wrap and just wrap that section. Think its needed? I have a triple pod gauge supposed to be in tomorrow, who thinks besides egt and boost that the trans temp is most important?

if you're doing okay and pushing 15psi, i bet its just fine haha. What temp do you stay below?
