1979 F100 Custom build in progess

Well In march of 2010 i bought my 79 F100 swb 2wd, bought it from the original owner he bought it from o'mera ford in denver in 79. Still has the unmolested transmission c6 and unmolested 351, had 180k guy had driven it all over the place from san diego to oregon back to colorado and tons of other places towing his familys stuff and so on. Has zero rust and all body panels are straight, His son repainted it a while back in red, colors ok but a bit sun burnt in places so first weekend i polished the **** out of it and the red really came back. So when i bought it he have me **** tons of stuff all the original paper work and books, some m/t alum valve covers and tons of other stuff, my plans are to make a cruiser and ocasional drag truck. I removed all the old guy stuff, tool box, ugly seat covers painted door panels, tinted the windows, added wheel lip moldings, added new cragar smoothies 15x8s, and 255/60r15 in fronts and 275/60r15 rears, removed his quad tips and added dual singles, hopefully by this up coming winter/december i plan on painting it 04 cobras sonic blue and white, bought the complete racetrack trim kit off ebay for $160 with shipping really good condition maybe a buff and its perfect. Bought a 1970 429 and is currently being stroked to a 514 will be getting the c6 rebuilt with red alto clutches and hard parts, idk on torque converter size yet. Will be finishing the lowering using the djm drop beams have the rear kit just half installed, and running some mt drag radials probably 315/65r15 if they fit without tubbing or cutting anything. Full length headers with 3in piping using some magnaflows and probably dump offs after the axle. complete new interior, and a tonneu cover. Might use some spray later if its not quick enough, caltracs in near future but for now lakewoods will have to do. Any ways thats enough writing if you have any suggestions i would love to hear them. I will keep posting pics as things come along.

When i first got her and slowly started changing her

at work

with the lowering bracket not the shackle just yet waiting till i buy the drop beams

next to a coworkers 77 250 between all of the guys at the dealer there was a total of 7 dents me having 2 of the 7.

with the new smoothies and bfgs

with the wheel well moldings and new tires and wheels, current condition

sonny, some of us "old guys" have allready done everything you have and then some. We all don't live in the dark ages. I have been a street rodder since 1956 and i don't believe you meant anything offensive, just sounded funny. Overall your truck looks real good,it's hard to find one like it. I have a 79 f-100 ,but not as good looking as that one. I have the 460/c6 in it.

Yeah in no way did I mean to disrespect the older fellas its just the way it came out, I guess kinda if you removed daytons off a truck I would say your taking away the "cholo" look, so what all is done with your truck doesnt seem to have the motor in it in the pic.

Shadow_almanza, the truck was a great find. Not often you get great sheet metal and one pretty much unmolested from previous owners. I would love to get a 2-wheel drive and drop it..........but the divorce would take away all my capital for the project

I know right I shopped around for a while this truck was actually the cheaper of all that I saw and had the cleanest body. Sorry to hear about the divorce that blows

Great progress so far! It looks a lot better with the smoothies for sure! What size tires are those? I'm running the same BFGs and mine are 255/70 R15s.

They are 255/60r15 fronts and rears are 275/60r15s. But gotta investigate with the djm drop whats the biggest and widest slicks I can fit in the rear without them coming in contact with the bed or leafs. Also want to avoid tubbing as much as possible, so my research continues.

Nice truck man, very good find! I am restoring my 76 swb now and am trying to decide on rims (check out my album if interested in pics). Those smoothies look nice, they are on my short list now along with the cragar ss. I would like dream beems one day but after paying for my body work and paint I will be broke... Mine was not quite as nice as yours
I am very interested in your progress, keep us posted.

Thanks, the cragars would look sick I wanted a look few have. Everyone puts the torque thrusts on their trucks I just wanted something else you know. And sweet truck man some good wheels and tires with the djm lowering would do wonders on both of our trucks. I sure will keep posting info just curious are the views interested in pics of the parts as I get them or once they are installed?

So finally started working on my truck again, finally got back my 521 stroker from the machine shop, and about to have the tranny rebuilt with high performance parts. So began installing the block and found out that my stock booster is coming in contact with my 4 inch tall valve covers from ford racing, so began doing some research and heard of the 79 f350 2wd booster , but i wonder if since those are dual diaphram if my stock mastercylinder will work with it? if yall have any info or help it would be appreciated
