power stroke in a 56 lincoln project

I recently joined FTE due to buying my first 7.3 ps. Once an owner I came up with a great idea. I am thinking of putting a 7.3 and a auto tranny in a 56 lincoln. I am restoring it as a hot rod. I need input on where to start on the engine and tranny. If anyone has any ideas on where to start. I am wondering what tranny to use and where to get the best info on the engine mods to make it screeeeeeem. I will be using a 7.3 out of a 96 f250. I have the tranny out of it to e40d but nit sure if it can be strong enough to handle a hopped up 7.3. If you can help please do as I need all I can get.

There's plenty of info here and in mags like Diesel Power, Diesel World, 8-Lug, and Diesel Tech on beefing up the tranny, as well as aftermarket companies that support these trannies. Hope you have the F-250 donner truck cause you'll need alot of its parts to make it run. Good luck & pictures. The more you can do the less it'll cost you unless you can "play the game" and barter for services rendered.

put it this way...the e4od was one of the biggest turds on the market, you throw 50hp at it and a good few nights out on the town and youll be sending that into limp mode in no time! if you want a hopped up tranny and NEVER have to worry about it again and be able to handle all the power you can get that 7.3 to churn out, look up BTS, brians truck shop trannys are the best out there for ford rebuilds.

let us know how much power you want to make and we can tell you exactly what to buy and how much it will be for each mod.

lincoln project

Wow thanks everyone for the response. I didn't think anyone would be interested in what I want to do. As far as my budget as little as possible probably around 25-35k when it's over. This will take me a few years but it will be fun. I will try to post pics as soon as I get started. I am in planning mode now but hopefully by the end of summer work will begin. I will take any advice I can get. I am a diesel tech with 20yrs exp just not with the ps engine. I want as much hp out of the drive train as possible while keeping a reasonable amount reliability. I plan on upgrading the suspension and the rear diff also. Disc brakes ect. I just have no idea where to begin with the parts. I am up for using used parts and rebuilding them also. I do have a doner truck which should help. I am in the nw portland or area. And thanks again.

Keep reading on here, the discussions are mostly about two things, solving problems and upgrades with entertaining humor thrown in, LOL. There is a lot of information here. I'm trying to picture the 56, does it have suicide doors. I'll have to google it. Sounds like a cool project. Good Luck and keep us posted!
