Ive put 300 miles on my truck since I bought it and got a combined average if 11 mpg with wrong size tires. I got the right ones now so it might come up a little,

I have 80k on my 2008 and probably average 11 mpg and that's around town and doing 80-85 on the interstate going from Utah to Idaho ever 2-3 weeks. You don't buy a V-10 or a gasser Super Duty for the mileage, you buy it for occasional towing, hauling on the weekends, or fleet trucks that want reliability over power and maintenance issues with diesels. Reliability was the number 1 issues with me and Idrive the he## out of my truck and it havs never been in the shop for repairs for any reason. Diesels are another story, especially the 6 leaker, but they all have their own unique problems that continue to plague diesel owners. You just can't go wrong with a V-10, even the early years with the spark plug issue can be fixed in a jiffy, and that's about the only problem the V-10 had for the first year or so. The later years with the TorqueShift tranny coupled with the V-10 is about as good as it gets for combined power and reliability.

That's a very good question, and I agree with the guys who've already posted their answer. My Dad's a hard-core Dodge diesel guy and thinks I'm nuts to buy a Ford anything, and a gas-Ford makes it worse! But here's the thing: I bought my truck knowing that I could only afford about $20K and I wanted more HP and TQ than my 5.7 Suburban had, and I needed a crew cab. I also wanted leather seats, 4x4 and a fairly low mileage truck. The other thing I demanded was a reliable truck, something all the GM trucks I've ever owned have not been. So here was my list of demands and since Dodges are not my favorite looking truck (sorry Dad) and I'll walk before I buy another Chevy, that leaves a Ford. Since I don't see any late model, Lariat diesels for under $20K, that means either a V10 or a 5.4 and since I wanted more power than my 5.7 'burb, that only leaves the V10. Am I sorry? Not even close, I love it. I have an '88 Mustang GT (20 mpg) that I use as a daily driver, but still take the truck once a week or so to keep the battery charged. Yes it gets bad mileage (10-15 depending on where and how I drive) but for less than a diesel, I have two vehicles to cover anything I need to do.

Well, normally I see 10 mpg, but I check I did this weekend that gave me some different results. I drove 158.5 miles and used 12.379 gallons for a 12.8 mpg result. The drive was from Rostraver, PA to Oakland, MD and back. Majority of the drive was highway, but just about all of the drive was on hills and mountains.

It's been hard getting used to 10-12 mpg with my V10, when I'm used to getting 18-19 with my 7.3

Don't think about your mileage, just think about how much cheaper it is to fill up with gas versus diesel. Focus on the positive and ignore the negative!

Yeah, but you don't have to worry about your CPS, EBV, oil in the valley, crap in the fuel, 50-75 cents more pet gallon for fuel, $100 oil and fuel filter changes, etc, etc. That's worth about 5 mpg, just look at it that way and you'll feel better. I am pulling a 30' Airstream on an extended trip and so far am getting about 8.4 towing 70-75 mph. On this last leg from Mesa, AZ to Midland, TX I am probabvly getting a little better than that; haven't calculated it yet.
