Water leak in rear

Everytime it rains I get a wet spot in the far left corner by the spare tire. Am I looking at a new seal or is this a trait with a different fix. Thanks in advance for your help.

Never had this problem. Check your seals around left rear window?

I was thinking that it might be the seal around the rear hatch.

How far from spare? Under it? Or just inside rear hatch? Look for splits in seal. Also examine left rear window to see if it "pulls in" like right rear window. Might be gap in seal?

You could possible check the tailgate hatch seal by using white lithium grease--liberally smear on seal, then slam hatch down. Open back up and see where lithium grease transfers to hatch. Contact all around or no?

Just inside rear hatch. I'll check those things, thanks. I thought maybe it was a common trait as so many other things are.

While you're online, can you tell me how to put a pic of my Ex on my profile. I tried and it keeps failing.

Marinda,

I don't know cause it may have to do with your "new" status. If a member of supporters, you have an extra option below the "advanced" window to download pictures.

Check out this FAQ.

Right now, you can post a photo to your garage, then copy the link to your post.

Dumb question. Does leak appear when truck is just sitting in the rain? Or is it after you drive it on rain-soaked highways? May be a bad body seal with water coming up from below(?). As far as I know, this is the first I have heard of this problem.

That's a good question. I'm not sure but I will check it out from that angle and post it. We're supposed get a big storm tonight and I'm not driving it for a couple of days.

Vista is a great place, grew up there, graduated HS there, met my wife of 36 years there......aghhh the memories! Sorry for the flashback, good luck on the water leak. Unless you have rust issues which if your rig is a west coast rig I would not suspect rust, then it's more than likely one of the formentioned seals. Keep us posted on what you find.

Marlinda,

Did you ever find the cause of your leakage? I am experiencing the same problem. However, the water always leaks at the low side of the ceiling (road/driveway slant side-to-side). I was driving once, and when I pressed the brakes I could see the water comming out of the ceiliing between the joints in the plastic above the rear hitch.
