Frame swap? A job so easy a 9 and 12 year old can do it.

Frame swaps come up here on a fairly regular basis. While some have successfully been able to swap an older truck body on a newer frame it is not for the faint of heart. It takes a lot of work, skill and tools. Most discourage the procedure because it can be very difficult. Now I've been told differently. It has now come to my attention that it's a simple procedure and any frame is usable and even a 9 and 12 year old can do it.

As here the frame swap subject comes up on the Facebook discussion pages. Most times the replies are pretty much the same as here on FTE. Until recently. A person asked what modern truck frame would be a good candidate to use and one reply really got me. Yeah, I know, don't let anything on Facebook bother you but I just thought this guy was totally off the wall and you guys might enjoy it. I've never attempted a frame swap myself but I've read enough here to know it's not for the faint heart and for someone without good amount of skill.

Oh yea, no big deal, just take any short bed, some blocks, a couple of toddlers and lickity-split... ...you're off and driving.

I can't believe you are questioning this Bob

Bob, you did do a frame swap. Don't you remember? You captured it on time elapsed video.

Yeah, the hardest part of the one I did was remove the rear running board bracket.

The problem here is the frame swap was done by the kids. Dad (Mike) has no clue what the work involved was.

I see this a lot as well...... I have redone 4 of these truck 48-56...... from stock to retro ride.... I don't get the whole frame swap thing?........ I can say I would rather have the steel on the old frame than the steel on the newer stuff..... I have seen the newer frames rotted out...plus all the labor involved in swapping everything.....I'm puzzled......

Oh, I understand now. I’ll try to get the kids to come here and present us with a detailed description of how it’s done.

Nathan, just think of all the time you wasted planning, cutting, notching and welding. You should gotten a hold of Mike’s two kids and sat back and let have a go at your truck. They’d have had it on the road in a week.

I'm assuming you did the logical thing and swapped onto a 4x4 for the snow right ?
