I was always raised never to touch the paint, ever. This has been a family tradition it seems, my dad says that the only time his brother ever yelled at him was when a leaf fell on top of his car and he reached up to remove it. I do wish more people would be considerate around paint. Not many people know that the paint is often the most expensive part of a vehicle!

Around here (ranch country) the problem is that the very few ppl that do care about paint don't care about truck paint because "trucks are only for work" so it doesn't matter. Also, ppl seem to think that if your truck is clean they shouldn't touch it, but if it's covered in dirt they'll rub all over it (which effectively turns the dirt into sandpaper).

Back in the day, at 4th of July fireworks shows and at the beach, etc., it was common to sit up on the hood or trunk of cars. If you did that on most modern cars, it would cause $1000's in damage. I've always wondered about this pic, the hood on these cars is very flimsy, I don't care how good looking she is or how naked... that had to leave marks

My jaw just hit my keyboard. I'd just buy another hood. I'll buy more paint too.

People

I have had some pretty rare cars in show all over the country - from SoCal to Daytona Beach, and from Denver, CO to Albany, NY. Now, my cars are not especially expensive, but I have never had occasion to yell at or chastise a show visitor for damaging a vehicle. I always let little kids sit in the seat or hit the siren if I'm in an ambulance or combination car. Last summer my girlfriend backed up my '88 Deville and dented the rear door, and my dad busted off the armrest on my '66 Ford Ranch Wagon but these things happen.

That is definitely a very nice and different hood ornament. It's a one of a kind!

I won't have that problem. Nobody will sit on my fender unless they are one tall person!

Well, judging by her appearance I'd expect her mouth would not be full of... bugs.

Try owning an old military truck. There is something about an M35A2 that just says "jungle gym" to kids and parents. Seriously, they let their kids crawl all over them so they can take their picture on "the big army truck." Even in car shows where most people are fairly respectful of the other cars and trucks, they think nothing of letting their kids sit in, or on these things.

I was at a show once where there was a beautifully restored GMC CCKW. (That's a WWII deuce and a half, grandfather of the M35) I stopped and looked at it, it had been a frame-off restoration. It was probably a lot better than new. We walked past it on our way out, after the show, and there were three kids standing on the front fenders and hood while "dad" took their picture. The owner showed up (with his trophy) and was none to happy.

Later, in the parking lot, we saw what was probably a 14-15 yo kid standing on the hood of a black Tahoe. The owner of the CCKW was taking his picture while the guy who's kids had been on his truck was yelling obscenities. I found it satisfying.
