shift tube orientation?

shift tube orientation?
I am rebuilding my steering column and unsure if collar end that spring rides on goes down by shift linkage or up by steering wheel LMC shows spring up at steering wheel but diagram I found here looks like its at bottom. right now I have it with collar and spring at bottom. By the way it a c6 4x4 and no tilt.
