Want 2 wiper blades on my 50 ford truck

Building a 50 F2 rat rod, want 2 wiper blades instead of one. Where to get motor and linkage? Any suggestions? New stuff is so expensive and not much room under the dash for stuff. Thanks.

Welcome to the board.
Just for the record, the 48-50 wiper assy is different from the 51/52 assy due to some dash bracing for the radios in the 48-50 trucks. My 49 was originally a dirivers side only wiper set up. I finally found a dual wiper set up on ebay for a decent price.

I searched for several months before I finally found it. I spent a lot of time on ebay emailing sellers who were parting out trucks to see if they had the dual wipers that they would sell. I eventually came up with the whole package.

Your truck should have a drivers side wiper with a vacuum motor. If that is the case then all you really need is the passenger side pivot and the connecting linkage

Good luck
Bobby

Dual Wipers for 50 Ford PU

Thanks for the quick reply. My vacuum motor doesn't work and I prefer 12 volt anyway. Am looking on ebay, not much available right now. Will take your advice and call sellers who may be parting out trucks. Thanks again!

The 51-52 unit will work just fine if you don't have a radio. Some of the trucks had braces under the dash. If I remember correctly, you have to cut part or all of the brace away to get the later wiper unit in. Doesn't hurt anything, since the later trucks didn't have the braces.

Want 2 wiper blades on my 50 ford truck

Thanks! We don't have a radio and don't mind cutting out the braces. So I guess we are in the market for 48-50 or 51-52 12 volt wiper kit/parts/assembly, wiper arms, pivots, and blades. Any sources and/or suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm getting rid of the vacuum motor on my 49. I'm not sure what I'm going to use for a motor yet but I'll come up with something.
The 51/52 assy had the motor mounted in the middle and you had your choice of vacuum or a 6volt electric motor.

I keep procrastinating on it, heck it doesn't rain much were I'm at anyway and Rain-X works pretty good...lol

I have the second wiper on a vacuum system, but it caused so much drag that I finally unhooked it. I drive it year round up here with only one wiper. The sweep is plenty for the driver, unless you have a passenger that just has to see out.

I have a single vacuum wiper on my 50 F2. Luckily I have had experience driving vacuum wipers before. "Someday" I will switch to electric but I am having a hard time convincing myself I need the extra wiper blade.

Do they make kits that just replace the vacuum motor part? All the rest of mine work great. I don't care about the radio deal either.

Does anyone have a picture of what a stock 1950 F2 wiper arm looks like. I have a wiper arm on mine now but I doubt it is a stock unit.

Vintique makes a motor that will bolt on, in place of the vacuum motor. They make one for 48-50 and one for 51-52. When I bought mine, Speedway Motors was the cheapest.

Thanks I will check it out. Speedway is one of the first places I go for many parts.

Find a universal or Model A style 12v motor from Speedway or Vintique. Buy and extra arm and blade. Mount the motor and blade on the driverside and mount the extra arm and blade on the passengerside on a fabricated pivot and connect the two arms with a polished stainless 1/8" rod.
You could even go Model T style and nix the motor and just use a hand crank handle. That would fit right into a rat rod theme.

I want to keep the single blade as I have it stock. For me the best way is just replace the motor as Speedway has it. My only issue is modifing the defroster vent. I hope this doesn't cut down the flow too much.

Just for the record.

48-50 dual wiper arm assembly. The arm is now connected to the switch, but should be connected to the wiper motor.

1951 Dual wiper arm assembly. 1952 had electric dual wiper motors.
