F150 4.9 dual exhaust?

What's the best dual exhaust setup for my 300 f150? I'm wanting true duals cause of the individual exhaust headers. And I'm keeping a cat, stock or high flow.

You aren't going to make it sound very good by keeping a cat.

Just keep her quiet.

You want the honest way of making a 300 sound good? Here it is, and this is all you need to know.

Install a leaker before any cat or muffler or any restriction. When you want it you can open it up. It will sound amazing. When you want a quiet ride just shut the leaker up.

My 4 banger ranger has no cat and flowmaster 40 series with dual exits, but didn't realize that spring Texas has emissions. So this truck has to keep the cats to pass emissions. I'm thing dual flowmaster high flow cats as a start. This will be my first legal truck....hopefully.

Been there, done that. Your 300 will sound like a 4-banger Honda.

Really? My 4 banger ford sounds like a v8 under 2500 rpm. After that its pretty ricey. I would think the 300 would sound even deeper with the 4 inch cylinder bore and it being 6 cylinders.

When I bought my '89 300 it had a Cherry Bomb turbo muffler on it, and ended right behind the cab. Original dual cats.

Sounds pretty good, it has a very very deep sound to it at the right RPM's.

Makes an awesome big deep sound when you fire it up, i've acually had people ask me what engine it had in it, and there all surprised it's only a sixer!

I've done this before. Waste your money if you want to but I just told you it would sound like crap.

I've spent close to $1000 in different exhaust setups on my truck, doing most of the work myself, just to get a good sound.

I KNOW what I'm talking about.

There's nothing wrong with Flowmaster but it's going to sound like poop with those cats. Especially if you run true duals. True duals never sound good on a six. Keep it one system, one pipe.

I'm not trying to say you may be wrong or not. But I was told the exact same thing for my ranger and it came out great. I'll see how it goes. I grew up having noisy diesels and when I got my first gas truck it was too quiet for me so I just had to put a better exhaust on it and make it louder.

Best thing for a straight 6 is no exhaust at all, straight 6 straight pipe

Dont feel bad PSD your not the only one that has wondered how it would sound......I decided I was gonna try it myself. Currently I have a single pipe ending just behind the cab cat. and no muffler.....I haft to say I like it but Ill probably goes true duels. Duel High Flow Cats and Cherry Bombs reverved....Ussually cuts down on the raspy 4 Cyl. sound.

John is right.

By the way, my truck used to sound just like a diesel. I bet you would have liked the sound.

Here's the thing. The 300 can sound SO different depending on the type of exhaust. It can sound like a 4 banger, V8 or even a diesel. It all depends on what you do to the exhaust. A lot of people would be surprised at how different the exhaust can sound by simply moving the tailpipes in different locations.

You want a V8 type of sound? I've heard two 300's in PERSON that I thought were V8's. They even sounded like V8's revved up.

I never could get mine to sound like a V8 all the way like that. Both of tese guys had Flowmasters. Not sure which ones. One truck had headers and one had the EFI manifolds. They had dual tailpipes but I think only one truck had true duals (this disproves what I just sai but it's so much easier to make a six sound bad with true duals).

I didn't mean to sound like a jerk. Just trying to help ya out. :P
