Looks like Dodge is tired of being the underdog....

Just saw this on pickuptrucks.com. Looks like Dodge just upped the ante in the HD truck segment.

2011 Chicago Auto Show: Ram Increasing Heavy Duty Diesel Power Ratings - PickupTrucks.com News

800 ft/lbs. from the Cummins should make another HD shootout interesting. I just wonder if the rest of the drivetrain will withstand it.

I wonder if Dodge trucks are really the junk everyone makes them out to be?

I tell you what, I'd love to have a Cummins sitting in place of my beloved I6.

somehow i think they will see alot more warrenty claims, you cant raise the engine almost 25% powerwise and expect no issues..

good luck to them, they still wouldnt sell me one..

You havent noticed that the name Dodge no longer exists? Fiat brands it only as Ram.

Personally I could care less if it's Ram or Dodge. A lot of people still don't realize it though so I labeled it as Dodge......neither name changes the facts of the article.

I think Fiat changed the name from Dodge to Ram so when they kill the Dodge brand they won't have to worry about damaging their truck brand. Fiat will keep Jeep, Ram and probably Chrysler (at least for a while), but I think Dodge is gone before long.

Yeah, they're killing Dodge off soon, that is why they just released the all new Dodge Durango, revised Journey, all new Charger + Charger SRT8 and are currently in development of a new Viper...

They separated the two divisions so the truck guys can focus more on trucks, and car guys can focus more on cars.

One thing I like about dodge is that they're the only ones offering a standard in a pickup still.

No, they are not. There are many examples of well used and abused dodges out there. None of the American 3 make any junk trucks. All have their pluses and minuses.

I beg to differ. Every Dodge we have had at work (except for the 98 and 99 Dakotas) have been less than impressive. They just plain fall apart.

I sure don't think Dodge (Ram) makes JUNK. I agree they all have pluses & minuses. I have heard more bad about the 6.7L Cummins. I have heard 3 people tell me that around 100,000 miles when the warranty runs out they have had injector & turbo problems. Neither are cheap fixes.
I agree with the post buying a Semi. For the money they want for a diesel pickup you can buy about 6 used single screw tractors. Get a real diesel & power train. For a minimum amount you can build a bed or a flat bed. I knew a guy that bought a Peterbuilt used with a 350 Cummins Road Ranger trans, built a bed that hauled his Bronco, & 40 foot 5th wheel. He got 9 mpg could cruise easy at 70 mph, He had less than $28,000 in it, including the sleeper with a queen bed, storage box behind the sleeper, with double doors. It was like 5'x8'x7'.
When you hook the weight to even a 1 ton diesel pickup that many haul you are using up 80-100% of the truck. With a semi you use about 40% of it. A semi tractor is made & hauls 70,000# for millions of miles. Hauling a TT or 5ther is like pulling nothing.

That actually makes a TON of sense.

Not to sound too corny, but that just blew my mind. I never thought of it like that before.
