Plug melted off my block heater

Didn't expect to see my extention cord laying on the ground this morning when I went out to start my truck, but it was, melted right off at the plug-in. Now I'm not electrically inclined, but howcould that happen? And can I wire a new on back on? Or should I check/meter something before I do?

DEFINITELY check the wires. There is SOME reason your plug melted off. Did the breaker trip?

Just make sure that the heater is OK and not shorted out. What probably happened is that either the male end was corroded or possibly a loose prong or the female end of the extension cord was sloppy. Either one of these could cause heat and it will melt. Now is a good time to do the Marinco mod to your heater.

or if you want to replace the cord and do the "marinco mod" search the thread reverse marinco mod. at my local international dealer i got a zero start weather proof chrome housing and a new block heater cord for 70 bucks and it works and looks a lot better than the standard black plastic marinco mod. either way its a good mod to do.......

here got the link for you---------> https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...se+marinco+mod

You're lucky your truck didn't catch on fire!
How many threads have we seen in the past with pictures of burned up trucks due to that block heater???
If I ever have a reason to plug in my truck, I will stand over it until it's unplugged again.

How much is a heater element? What should the omhs be on it? Please tell me you don't have to go the stealership I hate getting raped by them guys And how hard is it to install and how much anti freeze do you lose? Now that you said "FIRE" I'm replacing mine. I hada garage fire 2 yrs ago when my 1973 M/B 450 SL burned to the ground and my garage due to a bad return (fuel) line to tank. So for me a new heater element and theMarinco mod is just a little piece of mind.

Will do thanks. The night it melted of it was -38* with the wind chill, and yesterdays high was a -2. I'm sure that helped contain any fire that could of tried to ruin my girl. The Marinco mod looks great,I believe I will do that. Thanks again.
