302/351w long tube headers
Does anybody now if my 302 longtube headers in my 79 f-100 will still fit if i put a 351w in it? All the headers i look up show that the shorties work and i found that the long tube headers on the 70,s thru 80,s vans are the same but i cant find any info about the truck headers. any info will be helpful. i know the 351w is taller and the angle is gonna be different because its wider too so im gonna try and see but would like a heads up if i have to buy a set of shorties or not. tnks for any help in advance!!!

I have tried unsuccessfully to put long tubes on my 351 windsor. Mine is 2wd. There is no clearance between the frame and starter. Shorties are recommended by all that I have read. These trucks never came with this motor, so no header has been made. Some say to try block huggers, but no one has reported any success.

I put the summit long tubes on mine they need some hammer work to make fit around the gear box.On the passager side I'm running a c6 so it took some work to fit around the bell houseing not that hard to get them on.I also used Hedman with the same issues as for the exit all the headers run straight into the cross member so there is a staight pipe kit sold with a 3 inch drop that you can pick up to go under or over it.

really need answers and seems like you guys are the ones to ask. Im running a 1970 with a 427 stroker. i also mounted a toploader out of a 1967 fairlane in it. I tried a set of 302 longtube headers from summit that was for 2wd 69-79 f100 trucks and it was way off. i got the 11" clutch so the bellhousing was in the way by alot. Any help would be great. Beings you guys got newer trucks was there a difference in frames or what? If anything i would go with shorties. anything to get better air flow. im stuck with 2 1/4 pipe for exhaust and its way to small of pipe. thanks alot and want to hear back soon guys.

351Ws have an inch taller deck height and corresponding increase in "flare". In order use 'em, you'll have to correct for each by:
1. Adding at least an inch of tubing to each primary; and,
2. Compensating for the flare by angling the tubing needed in #1 above so the lower half of the header is more outboard.
It's doable... hey, maybe there's money to be made here... Hmmmmmm.

The SUM-G9032 fit with NO MODS! :)
I did my research. Almost all the forums say that you have to cut a notch in the frame or knock in the pipes on the passenger side. But tonight I just got my SUM-G9032 long tube headers on my 351w (1976 F150 2wd auto-tranny). The drivers side was so easy. The passenger side was all the hoopla. I unbolted the motor mounts and transmission mount. Then picked up the engine with a hoist (cherry picker). I picked it up until I was able to pass the headers between the starter housing on the transmission bell and frame. Once it past I was able to bolt up the headers. I bolted them up good and slowly lowered the engine. It wasn't short of a miracle. Before I knew it the engine was sitting on the mounts. Perfect! At closer look the headers are pinched in pretty good. I'm sure I'll need to pick up the engine if I ever need to disconnect the headers, but o'well I'm happy I didn't have to cut into the frame or bash in the tubes.
I hope this helps others.
