I had a new pcm installed in my 92 f150 5.0 the truck still runs like crap. When the scanner is put on, it shows no codes. Is it possable this pcm was not flashed ,I was told it was by the shop that installed it ,could it be the wrong pcm or the wrong scanner shouldnt the new pcm show codes to the problems
Oh, how I love the way some of ya'll folks describe them truck issues - that "runs like crap" is about as descriptive as my girlie friend's "foo-foo" - does your engine sound "foo-foo" while "running like crap"? LOL I mean, really, this is why ya'll folks get charged out the wazoo at the repair shop, cause us greasemonkeys simply can't read minds (Lord knows we wish we could) and if ya'll can't describe what the symptoms are then we have to spend extra time to try to figure out where to even begin diagnosing the problem... That said, why did the shop replace the PCM? Those don't really fail all that often, do you know what led them to think that replacing the PCM will fix the truck? Also, who did the plugs and wires replacement? Mess up the firing order on the dizzy cap and you'll be lucky the thing even starts... So that's one easy thing to check, make sure the plug wires are where they should be on the dizzy cap. Also you mentioned replacing the fuel pressure regulator, but have you verified that the fuel pressure in the line is what it should be? If the pump is dying there won't be a code that the pressure is too low, but there will be all sorts of running issues.

Find a new shop to take it too.
In 1992 you can not flash a PCM, that is a OBD 2 thing and you have an OBD 1 truck.
Does not sound like they know what they are doing.
Well the idle runs high and low,the motor has no power and the mpg. is 9 the harness to the egr valve was burnt up and the pmc was reading different codes everytime it was reset now it shows no codes Im not a mechanic Im just doing the best I can
egr may have to be intact as well as the egr position sensor , if it has one.
Most trucks have the computer code on the drivers door lamb and there may be 3 or 4 bigger numbers and letters on the unit itself.
I got lucky at pickapart and got a good one for 40$ and for some reason they did not care about the program code, just eng, trans etc. but that was for a 94
If I had the same symptoms, I'd put the old one back in and fix the wires to the egr etc and start over.
