Every day i usually take my truck out in the woods for a drive becuase i dont have my license yet. After about 15 minutes of driving the check engine light comes on. The temperature guage goes up and down but never goes much past the C line. This is worrying me. I had a slow hose leak on my radiator but all it was was a loose hose clamp. Anyways i filled my radiator back up and it still does it. what is up with this??? I have a 3 inch bodylift and one of my hoses was bent over by the fan shroud but not bad. I cut a notch to fix that problem and it still says check engine. If i shut the truck off and turn it back on it doesnt say it anymore. Today it was really cold and when i was idling when i got back from the woods the guage was on full cold. How can i fix this? Or better yet, what is it?
Sounds like you may have 2 problems.
The cold running engine is probably due to the thermostat.
The check engine light on means that the truck's computer has seen a signal from one of the sensors on the engine that it doesnt like. You'll have to get the computer scanned so you know where to look. I think Steve83 has instructions on his site for doing this without any tools.
