MPG Upgrades, and many ????

I just picked up a 2000 CC LB 4x4 7.3 with 245,000 miles on it. Full 4in exhaust (turbo back) no cat, flowmaster, stock size BFG all terrains, and a giant (heavy) snugtop and a full bedrug, no other mods. On summer fuel in Southern California with the cruise control set at 65, I was getting exactly 18.3 Mpg. I did this test often and verified mileage with GPS and always filled up at the exact same pump. The drive had basically rolling hills and there was no stop and go at all. When I drove across country with a trailer full of furniture I got a best of 9.3 Mpgs. The truck and trailer with load came out to over 20k.
I am getting ready to put 35s on my truck...and I will use it as a daily driver, about 60 miles per day....I tow, I 4wheel, I camp and I hit the snow when I can. I love this truck but want to use it for its capabilities AND drive it ever day, owning a second car for gas mileage just makes no sense to me, or to most mathematical equations!
Good luck with the MPG quest...........I look forward to seeing what helps, and Ill be sure to post what I find out as well.

As far as mileage increase my stage 1 injectors made a huge gain. I saw small increases with a 6.0 ic as well. Anything to drop your intake temps will increase your efficiency in the cylinders.
In all reality staying with stock size tires is your best bet for fuel economy.
Small things like new boots and clamps to fight boost leaks as well as properly sealing uppipes. I see around 20mpg if I keep it around 73-75 mph. Mods in my sig below.

When I had a 4'' lift and 35s with stock 3.73 gears:
Stock inj with chip, intake and exhaust- 15city 17hwy at best.
238/80 hybrids, and supporting mods- 20-21hwy and 16-17city average.
Same 238hybrids and 8'' lift, 38/15.50 mud grapplers and 4.30 gears
18-19hwy at 68mph, 16 city average.-both on winter fuel.
Keep in mind my truck is also a 6spd and I have about 1000lb of extra stuff like my aux fuel tank and tools. I'm like you and love my truck. It fits its purpose and does its job like no other. I don't care about mileage, it is what it is, its not what I got my truck for. But that doesn't mean I don't like to get the best mileage possible for my setup.
Assuming everything on your engine is up to par(ic boots, no exh leaks, etc.) One of the first things you can do is regear like I did. It makes a bigger difference than you would think.
Other than that, is to get rid of the split shot injectors.
Most of the other things will only make very slight differences. You also have to take into account the money you spend vs the time it would take you to make up that money in fuel savings.
