Is there ANY possible way to tell if a certain truck that im looking to get has 172,000 miles or 72,000 miles? Of course the odometer reads 72, but even the carfax didnt show anything, because its diesel and miles are not reported when smoged like gas cars.
Any "tricks" you guys know of? found an 87 f250 6.9 diesel, looks good and is selling for 2000. its about a 300 mile drive but im only interested in a 6.9 (dont as why, i dont even know).
you only want a 6.9l and not sure why uh.
well, the odds are good she's rolled over once or twice or even 3-4 times by now.
if its got 72k original miles, the entire truck would appear pretty mint minus some rust if your in the rust belt.
have any pics?
is the truck a 2 or 4wd?
what trans is in it?
how well does it start?
what kind of maintenance or lack there of has it received?
here is the link to the ad, says there are no dends, but the paint on the hood is starting to come off. personally i dont like the color, but was thinking of just painting it white, costing me about 800 maybe
i hear the 6.9's last longer. Also they are good in fuel economy. One thing for sure I want a diesel truck. Other than Craigslist, ebay classifieds and backpage i dont know where else to look for this truck. Any suggestions?
looks pretty nice.
what did he say when you asked how many times the odo rolled?
sounds like he's willing to take less too.
the only real downside i see is that the auto in '87 would be the C6 trans.great trans and all,but direct drive only.no locking TC or OD is pretty dated today.but hey,if you don't drive 55+ MPH all the time, then it's not such a big deal, though with fuel prices,it sure is nice to have a trans that directly locks and kicks into OD at 40-45 MPH ya know? could be a real nice pickup though, and it's not like you couldn't toss in an overdrive trans down the road.
you'd have to go look at it to really know what it is.
two axle ratio's come in these trucks 3.55's and 4.10's.
for best economy, your looking for 3.55's.
