Do worry about driving without a speedometer, the cops have some really accurate remote models to let you know how fast you're going. I know, I had one tell me about 25 years ago. The biggest insult, I didn't have any trim on at the time, he asked if the truck was a Ch**y!!

I actually HAVE a working speedo for the '49, and a cable, just no gear. I called a local Ford dealership and they said I would have to order and pay for 4, cause they come in bundles of 4. I passed, cause I have no interest in getting 3 spares.

I didn't have a box on it at the time, just a home made wooden flatbed. Here's what it looked like back then:

Kind of funny story now. I was in a pack of cars doing the same speed but I must have looked like the weakest of the pack. We came around a curve in the road and I saw the cop sitting in a shopping center parking lot. Just as I noticed him I saw him put his radar gun down and I just knew he was going after me. I watched him in my mirror as he pulled out of the parking lot and got in line behind me, about two cars back as I came to an intersection to make a left turn. I waited at the intersection making the turn, hoping the green light would turn because I was first in line to turn and was already half way into the intersection. I figured if I could make the turn on a stale yellow light only I and maybe the guy behind me could make the turn and the cop would be stuck at the red light allowing me to get away. Nope, that green light was the longest green light I've ever seen. After oncoming traffic cleared I had no choice but the proceed, along with the guy behind me and the cop. Sure enough, as soon as I got on the straight away he flipped his lights on. He came up to my truck and asked if I knew how fast I was going and I had to explain my speedometer "just" broke and it wasn't working. He gave me a break and only sited me for operating with defective equipment instead of speeding, it still cost me some money but no points.

There's the connection and logic!

I think this topic needs a thread of it's own.
