I have a 1980 Ford F-150 that I want to covert to HID lights. I already converted it to take standard H4 bulbs, and now I just need the HID kit with ballast.

The question is.....

What K rating is the best?? I want the brightest lights I can get, and I have had a few people tell me that after 12,000K they start getting dimmer again...

And another thing, what is the term for High/low?? I know that there is a special term for it, But i can't remember what it is.....

Has anyone else converted a 80-86 truck to HID??

 

after about 8k they get blue. 6000k would be the whitest. and the high/low term, i belive, is bi-xenon

 

Depends on what you want. Type in HID colors in google and it will show you the differences in color. 6k still has some blue in it. 5k is pure white. The more blue they get the less light output you get so yes they get "dimmer".

High/low would be with high beams and low beams. Since our trucks use 1 bulb for high and low unlike alot of other cars and trucks. High/low kit you will be able to have high and low beams. Non hi/low kit you will only have low beams.

I would suggest getting some projector headlights for use with the HIDs. I think ebay has some for the 80-86.

Not sure if anyone else has ran HIDs in an 80-86 but I was going to when I had my 86 but I sold it and have had my HIDs on my 94 for almost 2 years now.
