Hello folks, thanks for having a great site that I've lurked
And helped convince myself to purchase a F150.

This will be my first Ford.
Countless Chvys but drove this truck with the gasser and I was sprung!

Anyway, need some price advice.

6.2 F150 Platinum 4x4, Nav. Tow option
Requesting Michelins tire switch in place of stock.
dealer spray liner, white.

Any advice on where we should be on price or any other advice, opinions
Additions or subtractions that might help?

Also, am I being paranoid about the rocker arm or ticking injector? Anyone else having problems or just a few bad cases which scares potential new buyers??

 

Seems like we have had at least 2 guys here that have had serious issues with the 6.2 valve trains... But there also have been quite a few without issues... I got 13K on my 6.2 - sometime I pull pretty heavy trailers & let it rev up - and so far - no issues...

I am not gonna say the problems are non-issues - but I would think that it would be bigger news if there were a high percentage of issues with the new gas motor...

I'd say - don't worry about it.. Your gonna have a 3yr/36k warranty..

 

I've had 5000 trouble free miles so far. The rocker issue does seem to be isolated, and I don't hear any ticking injectors.

As far as the pricing, you'd have to do the build and see where you're at, then look for any rebates/incentives after that.

I got really lucky and ended up getting about 13k off sticker, but that included about 8k for my trade.

I was with a friend yesterday that has 6.2 with 3k on it and no problems.

Yea, The hill country tends to make it burn a little more fuel... Go out to the panhandle where you got flat country & your mileage will increase a couple of MPG....

I imagine your going to have to order the 6.2 here - I was at Covert (183) the other day & they had like 40 Superduties - only one gasser & it was a regular cab XL... Not sure about other dealers - But I think that they tend to sell more of the diesel/ luxury types here in the city...


Thats right - you are going for the 150 - Should be more of them.... There are tons of them - not sure about the 6.2 though

 

Don't pay above invoice, the dealer is still making at least 3% profit at invoice sometimes more. If you look around at various sources, it's easy to find the invoice cost w/ options. Many dealers will go below invoice, some up to $400 below. The price isn't always the only thing to consider though. Dealer location and service quality also figure in. The incentives which are quite good right now on most vehicles would come off of the invoice price. Then you have to add on freight and of course taxes.

Give it away, I'm ok with the dealer making a little money. Call it my personal
Loyalty plan for being able to run a business and not needing a bailout.

IMO, few hundred dollars and a good relationship with my dealer is worth it.

So we're in the mid 40's. No Michelins, another dealer is offering similar deal with tires...
But I'm concerned about the other dealers customer service.

 

I couldn't agree more. Trying to rake the dealer over the coals isn't always the best approach.

Stick with the original then. Any doubt about customer service is a minus.

 

Dealer called and said the rebates have changed and the 2.5K plus 1k
for Ford financing no longer exist, it's dealer cash now. He thought he could give me the 1k, but now can only do 2.5K.
Furthermore he can switch tires to Michelins, but he keeps stocks tires and charges me $750.00.

Looks like I'll start the process with another dealer.

I would definitely shop around as much as you can so you can determine the best pricing in your area. You can always pull on the other offers given by other dealerships to help you negotiate a better deal. If this dealer really wanted to make a sale on the vehicle then they would have given you the Michelins for no charge, in response to loosing the 1K.

 

A King Range F250 4x4 is about the same price as a platinum F150 with a 6.2 4x4, so if you take the better rebates on the F250 and better truck this would be a no brainer.

In any other equal configuration a F250 6.2 cost less than a F150 with a 5.0, so go figure, F150 overpriced? or a good deal on a F250?.

You be the Judge.

I would go with the better dealer, better Truck, Tires are just detail.

Thanks for the tips. I have other dealers working prices. I'll be in Houston this weekend so I may drive one home.

Looked at the F250 but not sure I want something that big. I enjoy the 1/2 tons and feel pretty comfortable with them. When I do tow I'd like to have the 6.2.

I love trees but don't hug them, this is America and I like that we still produce big engines.

I'll plug my toaster in, eat my corn and drive my trucks!
