In the market. What do you think??

Well I'm finally just about in the market for a new ride. Looking for some opinions (price, what to be sure to check out, etc) on a couple of rigs I've been looking at.

1969 Ford F100

1966 f100 camper special 400hp!!!!!!!!

It'll be my first truck that's older than I am, so I'm not coming into it with a lot of prior knowledge/experience. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys

If that '66 doesn't have power steering, which I bet it doesn't, that cute little steering wheel is gonna get on yer nerves in no time flat!

I don't believe there was a "Camper Special" F100 in 1966.

It looks like a power steering pump on the '66.

I can't see the '69, but the '66 looks sweet. What I'd be concerned with is rust and how it was repaired. The typical rust spots are in the lower fenders and the cab corners. I'd be looking really carefully at those areas and then the botttom side of the cab -- floor pans and cab mounts.

For 7800, if it's a clean truck with either no rust or repairs that have been made correctly it's a good deal, but I'd be worried about somebody that filled rust holes with bondo that's going to fall apart in a few years.

The write up says it has power steering. It also says it has a 4 speed tranny with overdrive. I would like to know what tranny that is behind a 390

The CL posting on the '69 has expired, so we can't tell you anything about that one...

As for the '66, there's clearly a P/S pump and lines in the pic if you blow it up a bit. At a guess, I'd say the tranny is probably an SMOD, aka Toploader Imposter. Here's a little more info from the Domestic Truck Tranny Guide, it's the first tranny listed:

And here, from David Kee Toploaders:

Not a super strong tranny, don't know how well it will hold up behind that built 390. I'd get more info on it if you're seriously considering buying that truck. It does say the tranny is still under warranty...
