I broke a mirror awhile back and bought mirrors with heat and turn signals (didn't have that before). Freezing rain kinda sucks - not being able to see out of my mirrors in a CC flatbed dually in NYC traffic REALLY SUCKS.
Luckily, I've found people will go to extremes to avoid scratching their cars with my truck!
I hooked my mirror heaters to the power window hot source in each door. So when the key is on, they are on. Note: if you lock out the mirrors using the switch on the driver's door, your passenger mirror won't defrost... I found that one out the hard way.
One of these days, I will run a wire to the dash so I can regulate the time they are on and off.
i wired mine to an led switch and mounted it in the area where those little vent lines are to the right of the steering wheel. wired mine to the key on power.....
Jeez, I was a little busy taking my ENGINE OUT to fix an oil leak the last time I had someplace above freezing to work on it...
Besides, I try with all my might to avoid weather that mandates freaking heated mirrors!!! A little windex and a paper towel worked fine for the last 230k miles I've driven this thing - freezing rain SUCKS! I don't wanna talk about how I was locked out of camper - 1/4" of ice over the keyhole. How do people live like this?? I'm just not equipped for it...
hehehe, otherwise I'm just fine! Wish I wuz coming to the GTG, had fun last time!
I'm a few miles south of ya and starting to think the same thing.I have been layed up over a month because of snow and ice
Yep, I got here 2.5 wks ago and literally have not even seen my project. I hear it has 3ft of snow/ice all over it. Its is extra nasty this AM, everything looks like a glazed donut covered in up to 1" of ice. Glad we don't have to go anywhere!!

Man, I was hoping there was a "Done" pic and explaination after that first pic, git r done Jason, i need to do this, Take care..
Ya know, if it wasn't so cold and wet outside - there probably would have been. I'm either gonna do a switch or a timer-relay. When I do it, I'll post the pics in this thread.
The lites are at least a little more difficult. Even though the door harness doesn't have the wires - I bet the main harness under dash (somewhere) does. At least this gives me something to do while I'm stuck in the 5ver on a cold, icy day!
ur welcome to come up to the warmer shop on sunday and work on these
Sweeeeet! But, I'll prolly put it off until I get home... (procrastijason could have been my screen name)
Damn, speaking of which I forgot to order clutch hydraulics! Its working fine, but my faith has been shattered! Even if I don't get it installed, I want it on-board for the trip to Lead Hill with a PSD on the trailer weekend after next!
Hey Jason I wouldn't even worry about them mirrors if you gonna be up there for a couple or three weeks longer because in that time you gonna say the h-ll with it & start driving just like them ignorant no driving SOBs...lol I absolutely hated having to work up there... Good luck bud
