Keep us posted! I really wanted to do the welded and smoothed inside corners but was surprised to see them failing.

I’ve been really busy working instead of posting pics. The driver side door had minimal rust repair but the entire bottom section of the passenger side had to be replaced. Other than cleaning a little more leftover adhesive from the weatherstripping they’re ready for primer. I also took the cab off the frame and started block sanding.

I just now painted the steel wheels matte black.

Well I had hoped to have my truck in final stage of primer and back together by July 6th. There’s a parade and car show where I grew up on that date. I was optimistic a few days ago but now it isn’t looking possible. I’ve had the bed really close for a while. I was going to hit a few spots with glazing putty, sand down and then spray final primer. Easy right?
WRONG!! I bought Evercoat 400 Ultra Smooth. I don’t know if something is wrong with it but it’s sanding like concrete. The z-grip filler sands much better. So after getting frustrated with that I spent s large part of the day blocking the cab and doing some welding work on the lower cowl panels. I guess I’ll just relax and enjoy the process now as I’ve really been putting in a lot of time and stressing on it.
Not to mention I got a piece of metal in my eye Monday. After having it removed Tuesday and thinking all was well, I had to go back 2 days later and have a rust ring drilled out. Fun, fun.

Sorry about not getting to your car show but like I’ve been saying for years, “maybe next year”. I had the ole rust ring removal once myself. Mine was cosmetic but the eye Dr still advised me to do it.

Hopefully I’ll keep up a pretty good pace on it. If I do I should still easily have it on the road sometime this summer/fall. I’m just trying my best to keep at it while I’m motivated. Last time I lost motivation I stopped working on it for 4 1/2 years!!

Now I am concerned about a health condition to look forward to. What is a rust ring in the eye?

If you have a spec of metal in your eye for very long like I did then it will develop rust around it which will also have to be removed.

I’ve finally got the bed in urethane primer. Here’s my setup to lower the bed onto the frame. I actually have it lowered on the frame now but there’s interference with the battery box. After I modify it the bed will sit down an inch lower. I’ll get a pic when that’s done.

Battery box modified and the bed sitting all the way down. Back to working on the cab!

Had a great day off. Not only is the bed on the frame but I got in some good block sanding on the cab. I also finished cleaning the doors and got them in epoxy primer.

Didn’t think I’d ever get to this point. Finally got the cab in some urethane primer.

Well if the weather holds out I’ve made the deadline for the parade Saturday. I’ve been hitting it really hard to get it to this point. I’m pleased with how it looks but now I can’t wait to fab some running boards for it. That ought to give it a lower looking stance filling that space.
