I finally finished a little more fab work on my battery box and got it painted. I used the the battery hold down from my wrecked Focus.

I also finally got got my electric fan mounted. A very time consuming project but I’m very pleased. I’ll probably add a little bit of adhesive backed foam on the edges. The fan size was almost perfect. I just had to modify the corner. My fan controller should be here in a couple of days.

I’ve been dreading this part of the build the most. I’ve put it off and put it off but I have to get it done now to continue with some of the rest. Since I cut the one piece front end apart the hood had no lip for any rubber bumpers and the inside edge of the fenders don’t extend far enough for the hood to rest on. I decided to try the hood first. I’m very happy with how it turned out. I’ll have to wait until the fenders are finished so I can set the hood on and do the finish shaping.

The weather decided to get warm and muggy again so I’m putting the fiberglass work on hold for now. I decided to alter the taillight to swing out instead of up for my fuel fill. I just hope I’ll have enough room to get the fuel nozzle to the filler tube now.

Rework is so fun. I had some supplemental fuse panels already wired but the bracket I made for them interfered with the wiper motor and HVAC unit. I moved it lower and now it’ll be concealed with the console I’ll make. Still need to get some convoluted tubing to clean up the wires more.

4.6 wiring

I bought a replacement harness for my '56 and I'm in the process of connecting it to a Street Performance 4.6 harness. Sounds easy but with Street out of business I'm on my own

Looks good. I wonder how much difference there is between the 4.6 DOHC and SOHC harness?
One of the biggest issues for me was just being limited space wise. I’m trying to keep everything that I can inside the cab and these ‘49’s are small.

Sohc vs Dohc

I have a 2003 DOHC in my '32 Ford and they both are about 28 inches wide. These engines are short front to rear but they are deep. I think DOHC with the butterfly plates (early) have more wires but later ones are about the same.

Finally the weather is cool enough to start on more fiberglass work. I took the clip outside and began the sanding. 40 grit on a belt sander worked good on the top. I used a belt sander, die grinder and a scale remover on the underside. After sanding I moved it back inside as rain was approaching. Here it is with the form made out of insulation board. I still have to apply packaging tape over the foam and then start laying some resin and fiberglass mat.

That is very cool. Just like a 56 and a 57 Chevy and some other 50s cars, I'm sure.

Thanks Abe. I thought it would be a nice custom touch.

I had a busy day away from home today. I only got home in time to remove the form and trim the fiberglass. I’m really pleased how it turned out. I have some hot glue to remove. Then I’ll scuff up the fiberglass and add some Duraglas to blend it in.

Thanks BJ. I start to feel overwhelmed when I think about all the work I still have left but that’s why I focus on at least making some progress every weekend no matter how minor. All the small progress adds up.

Time to blend the old fiberglass with the new. I used fiberglass filled body filler (duraglas) for this first step. I’ll use a skim coat of regular filler after this.

Since this was a tilt front end, the lower fender sections were separate pieces that bolted to the running boards and the rest of the fender lowered on to them. Since I’m not tilting I used epoxy adhesive to glue them together. I then used the belt sander to better shape them with the fender curve. I then v’d the mating line. I’ll be using duraglas to blend this as well.
