whats the best spark plug for my 6.8
#4
The Autolite platinums are almost the same plug as the Motorcraft. Autolite actually makes the Motorcraft plugs. The Autolite numbers are AP103 for platinum and APP103 for double platinum. If you are going through the labor to replace the plugs, make sure you replace the spark plug boots as well and use dielectric grease on the spark plug connection as well as where the boot hits the head. I've seen other plugs like NGK and Bosch not perform as well and typically do not last as long on the 4.6/5.4/6.8 engines.

Garbage like the E3, Bosch +4, or others like them that claim such are nothing more than snake oil and will gain you absolutely NOTHING.

Spark plugs are not going to give you any fuel economy gains if the plugs that are in you engine now are functioning properly.

Happen to have numbers or a place to get the boots from?

Spark plugs are largely all the same with few notable differences... platinum are known not to be great for high performance application as it does not cool down as fast as copper or, the newer iridiums. Copper ones have to be replaced more often, and are thus not that popular. Iridiums are the best of both worlds, the longevivity of platinum - 100k miles - and the cooling of copper (the tip is much smaller on iridium plugs).
The E3, bosch +4, +2, splitfire, etc, are all snakeoil as JL said. Bosch +4 has the added reputation of those ground things breaking off and ruining motors...
I've never had problems with running iridiums in my mach1, and prefer them over platinum, knowing the pre-ignition chance is reduced. I put the same iridiums in the excursion when I changed them, not because I wanted performance, but just don't care much for platinums, and wasn't gonna change them with coppers...
