"sport" F150 with painted bumper, it keeps chipping!
I have an 02 F150 Sport with the painted bumpers. I have had the truck for about six months (bought in brand new) and I have had many chips on the front bumper. I had one touched up, and touched up serval myself. I happen to be in the dealership where I bought it and asked them if they would fix it and they said it was normal ware and tear. Today I was cleaning it and noticed a dime sized chip. I am sick of touching up my bumper every time I clean the truck. When I bought it I mentioned my concern of the bumper chiping and he said they were covered in something to prevent the chipping. Anyway when I was at the dealership the first time a guy suggested that clear bra stuff. He was supposed to call me back and I never heard from him (December 02). Anyway this new chip is pretty big and I think just touch up paint will look bad. My question is how should I fix this chip? Should Ford do anything? And what can I use to protect the paint from further damage? I have the premixed touch up that I got from the Ford paint place. My truck is white with the code XY (I think). Any info from you guys is always appreciated and most of the time used. Thanks, Levi

working at a bodyshop i have seen many of these come in chipped and rustying away, we'd sand them down with a 120 on a D.A. and then prime/seal/paint/clear them and the aftermarket paint seems to last longer were a Dupont shop and use all there stuff

I have a 95 and painted all the front end to match the body paint. I used all the right products and procedures (epoxy paint, metal conditioners, primer surfacers etc..) and mine too chips. I had some folks apply the 3M product many have posted about in this thread. I did not have it applied to the bumper though. It was installed on the rockers all around my truck. I noticed before painting that this seemed to be an area that had lots of chips. It cost me $350 CDN. I am very impressed with the product. I can take the pressure washer to it and no worries. I am going to do the bumpers soon and inside the wheel well lip.
