Rusty hitch....how bad before I should replace?

So, I just crawled under the X to scrape all the rust off the hitch to do the annual spring repaint. While scraping the loose rust a hole developed on the bottom tube about three inches long by about a quarter inch wide. I thoroughly inspected rest of hitch and all seems solid. I really hate rust! I know it will do nothing but get worse, but my question is, should I replace the entire hitch, or do I still have a couple more years left in it? If they were easier to find and not as expensive, I would just replace it, but I had a hard time finding a replacement two years ago! Thanks in advance for your opinions!

Nope. It is now junk, unless your only going to put a bike rack in it. Mine doesn't have a hole in it, but it is rusty. I bought a Curt hitch for the X, they now make hitches for them.

Get it replaced if you will be towing!

That's what I was thinking, too. Where did you get your Curt hitch?

Replace it with the Curt. I just did mine. Two beans and change on Amazon. It was a lot of work, but the right thing to do.

Please replace ASAP.

If you are towing in the Peach State let me know your itinerary, so I can stay home.

I picked mine up from auto anything. $139 with a code and free shipping.

I'll be putting mine in, in a couple weeks. I'll be cleaning up and repainting the skid plate along with the frame rails.

Don't worry, won't be towing until I replace it! Not that it matters down there, last March when I drove through Atlanta on the way to Mickeyworld, I couldn't believe the drivers! You either go 85 or 40....nothing in between!

Just checked autoanything.com (thanks tor the tip) and quote was $232. You got a screamin deal! Going to check local Radco to see if thay may have one in stock, but probably going through autoanything.

Chuck, what do you normally tow?

Brent may have a repair for this.
