460 Oil pressure HELP!!!!
I have a 1977 F-150 with a 460 in it. It was leaking oil around the distributor. My brother and I took out the distributor and replaced the seal. Somehow we didn't put it back in right and the timing was off. After taking the distributor out and putting it back in several times we got it to start. Now there is no oil pressure showing on the gauge and there is a funny noise coming from the front of the engine. My brother thinks that the oil pump is ran off of the distributor and something might be missing. Is there anything that could have fell off?
Any thoughts? Is was running good before we removed the distributor.
In trying to get the #1 cylinder to TDC we turned the engine by turning the fan. It helped. Is it ok to turn an engine by rotating the fan?

There is a collar on the oil pumps drive shaft that is supposed to keep the oil pump drive shaft from lifting up out of the pump when you remove the dizzy. Sounds like the collar slipped and let the shaft come up & out. You may be able to get it back in, or you might end up dropping the pan.
