Unhappy Brake Parts

I have a '97, F150, 5.4L, 2WD, 4ABS, 145K, with front disc & rear drum brakes, that sit out 365 in NE Ohio. I just lost the rt ft pads/rotor due to a hung caliber.

I intend to redo the brakes stem to stern early spring, however the dust shield or splash guard for the fronts are nearly rusted away. I do not seem to be able to locate any such thing for the front on any of the parts houses WEB sites even the Ford sites. However, I maybe seeking the shield/plate by the incorrect term.

Questions,

Do I really need them or can I safely remove what is left of them?
If I do need them, what do you properly call them?
Where can I find them?

According to my '08 service manual it is called a "Brake Disk Shield"
For my '08 the part # is 2K004 RH / 2K005 LH
Reference those #s to the parts man for a '08 and tell him that you need the equivalent for your '97

Order them through this FTE sponsor; http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=214072
