89 f250 460 fuel injected won't start
Hello every one,
I have searched this forum and done alot of reading and am slowly ruling out possible problems. My truck turns over very well but will not start. It will start if left alone for a while. It has been doing this off and on for a while now and seems to have finaly decided to not start again. I have spark, batteries up to par, clean and unobstructed air intake. All the dash lights light up when ignition key turned on. I have limited tools for working on fuel injection and am wondering how I can check that I am getting fuel without damaging anything. I am also considering chanding the fuel relay. From time to time when it would not start when turning the key off and on I could hear a thump from what I believe was one of the relays, at least that is where it seemed to be coming from.If I waited a few minutes the engine would start. It does not seem to matter whether the engine is hot or cold when this happens. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Me again,
I still don't think that Im getting any fuel. I had the wife turn the ignition on and off will I held the relays first the eec then the fuel. The eec clicks when the ignition is turned on and off but the fuel relay does not. Would this indicate that the fuel relay is shot. There is no loud thump when ignition is turned on and off like before. I also crawled underneath and heard no audible sounds from the fuel pump.

i just got done with about the same problem.. to chech the relay which is the green one for the fuel pump. i was told to ground the tan wire going into the relay and this would override the relay and make the pumps work..if this doesnt do it,it is probably 1 of your fuel pumps.. i had three in my van 1 in each tank and a booster pump on the frame rail.it ended up being the one on the frame rail..i pulled it off and put a ground andthe hot off the bat charger and it would not pump. if its one in the tank find the wire powering it up and put a hot to it to see if you hear the pump kick on.i hope this helps

Thanks for the response,
I put on a new relay for the fuel pump but that was not the problem. I figured out which wire did what at the relay and with test light, jumper, and multi meter I was able to determin that the pumps are good. They run when jumpered. There is just over 3 volts on the activation side of the plug but it is not getting the signal to complete the circut .............hummmmmmmmmm. I had to give up for the night ,but before I quit for the night I powered the low volt side and there was some clicking around the intake but I could not figure out from where. Damn I could use a extra pair of hands some times. I am hoping to borrow a code reader, or jumper the test plugs to get the computer reading to see if it has picked something up. Will keep everyone who gives a %&*)@# up to date lol

Well I'm very happy to report that the beast is running again. I made the assumtion that the eec relay was fine as it would click when the ignition was turned on. After unsucsefully trying to get the codes from the computer I tested this relay and it was faulty. After replacing the relay I was able to read the codes there are no problems now. I hope that anyone who finds this post during a search can learn from my mistake that never assume anything when it comes to electricl problems.
