Next step is to get the rad plumbed in so i can let her run for longer than a couple of mins...... can't wait!!! I also gotta finish the rest of the exhaust. Right now i only have the down pipe on and it sounds sweet!!!
and if i can figure out how, maybe i'll post a video of her purring away!

Heres a pic of the Amsoil air filter that i purchased. I've seen in other post that guys run them right on the turbo, but my only concern is that is is sitting parallel to the exhaust manifold, so it might draw hot air. I put it on the turbo tempilarily while i started the engine. I plan on making a 45 deg or 90 deg pipe that will attach to the turbo inlet and let me get my filter away from the manifold.

I also got the top welded onto my fuel tank the other day. I haven't pressure tested it yet, and i have to finish welding the mounts together, but it went well. The pics failed to upload, so i'll have to try and re-size them and try to put them on later.

I'm gonna have to pull off my valve covers one of these days and get them to my buddy who does powder coating and get them finished up. They make the engine look so ****ty!!

I got some more work done on the fuel tank, well not actually the tank, but the mounts. My old man had been messing around with our aluminum spool gun lately and he got it dialed in pretty good so i used it to do the bulk of the welding on the 4 mounts. The spool guns can be a royal pain in the *** if you don't get them set right, and your not long switching back to the tig, but when they are working good they lay down some nice beads. Next i have to get the mounts welded to the tank, then pressure test it....Pics to come.....

I also got some more wiring done. Then engine turns over and starts with the key, next i tackled the charging system.. luckily i have the old style dodge alt with the external voltage regulator. After a bit of research i foud that it was super easy to wire up. All i had to do was hook the two small wires that come from the back of the alt to the two terminals on the voltage reg... its a "dumb system" so it doesn't matter which wire goes to which tetrminal. Then all i had to do was hook a power wire (keyed power) to the top terminal on the reg (shareing the terminal with one of the wires going to the alt). Hook up the heavy ground wire and the heavy positive wire from the alt, and i works like a charm.

Now the only wiring i have left is for the intake heater grids. I have the original relays from the dodge doner, including the heavy guage wire that goes from the battery to the relay and the relay to the heaters. Pretty straight forward. I bought a spring return 12v push button from napa that i'm going to install in the dash and run the 12v from there to the relays to activate them. oh, ya, i still have to finish hooking up the oil pressure sensor and the temp sensor as well. I used ford sensors and just adapted them to fit in the cummins.

Thanks for the pic. I'm afraid with my steering conversion a cummins would be a tight fit. I'm
Going to stick with a 460 for a bit. She's new anyway and I also have a spare 460 for her.

Ya it is a bit tight, i originally was going to install a f250 box in there, but i went with an external saginaw box instead. The 460's are nice, but like the fuel. I have a 77 hi-boy in the back yard with a 460... it might be my next project, it needs a cab and i have one on a 78 2wd that i might use. I love the sound of the big blocks.... I have a 429 in my old mud truck that rocked, and i miss wheelin it......

If I ever cummins one I'll be doing the sag box as well. I should probably find one rebuild it and set it aside just incase.

Heres the spool gun that i mentioned earlier. Like i said, they can be a pain in the ***, but when you get them dialed in the work pretty well. Definately a quicker welding process than the tig.
