1956 F100 - Electric Wiper Switch Wiring Problem
Hello All,
I was hoping some one could help out. I have a electric wiper switch that does not seem to match the diagram in the shop manual. For the life of me i can not figure this out. I have included photos of my wires coming from the motor and the witch that I have with its lettered prongs as well as the diagram in the manual. I checked the fuse and it is OK, but no combination I have tried has worked.
If any one can help me wit the correct wire to prong designation I would really appreciate it. Right now the wipers are stuck standing up. Im not sure if this is the original switch because it doesnt seem the same as the diagram.
Thank you, Rusty

@dawolverine,
I guess what should have mentioned is that the switch used to work. i was under the dash fussing with the speedo cable and these connections came off the switch (must have been really loose). So we know it worked, just cant figure out what spade is for what wire with that diagram from the shop manual.

@kenjh,
If I can do this that would be great for now, until i can figure out the wiring. How would I go about this with the red, green, and 2 blk wires?
The wipers were working before the connections came loose. Like an idiot i thought the diagram would be the same in the book and it would be an easy fix. (lesson learned) this seems to be hard one!
thx

if you have jumper leads the 14 gauge wire type with clips you can apply power to one wire at a time to see what happens I have a fuse inline in mine to protect against shorting to ground ,you go from power to each lead and let it run till you understand what it does...one will park the wiper ,one is slow ,one for fast....and sometimes one is a ground that one pop's the fuse!!we learn by surprise..when we survive...this is how I have found out so many wrong ways to do things!!!

@kenjh,
Thank you! I tried it a few times with no luck...even tried moving the arm shafts under the dash manually, no luck. Maybe the motor jammed up...tapped it a few times with a rubber hammer then tried the jump leads again and it worked.
So now i just need to figure out how those leads connect to the switch. Do you have any advice on that one!

forgot to mention the hammer!!glad you got that ..so check your fuse is good and try it on the "B" terminal on the switch then with your circuit tester find out what the other leads do with the switch in each position...MAKE YOUR OWN DIAGRAM....trust me someone else will need your help soon!!once you have figgered out ...off,slow..medium...fast.. try the terminals to the wiper motor ,,after a few trys...it's coffee time and you can now share your new found knowledge...if you don't have a circuit tester a light bulb or a seatbelt buzzer works great.. just ground one side and jumper clip to the switch ..cheep and works great!!

I have the midfifty instructions here and it states there were various combinations used between 53-56 trucks (just to keep it simple for you!!).
On your switch it looks like B is usually the switch power in/out (the fused wire coming from the accessory terminal on the ignition switch). The 3 wires you then have should control Park, High & Low positions for the wiper motor.

Just tried what "dawolverine" said and it works! (THANK YOU VERY MUCH). Just one question the switch has three positions: position one is OFF(park), position 2 is wipers on and 3 it stops the wipers mid stroke, so off. Could this be just one of the High/Low are wrong or that its only one speed?

I dig out this old topic here. I'm just about to wire the wiper. Since the original cable colors are not there anymore, the original wiring diagram does not help me because it only indicates the cable colors, but not the connections. Can someone tell me which connector on the original wiper switch belongs to which connector of the wiper motor?
I´m not sure if this is an original Wiper Motor or maybe aftermarket?
