49 f1/ 351W swap

It can be done and is a fairly simple swap. The worst part is that you'll have to cut out most of the original transmission crossmember to get the C6 through there and install a separate transmission crossmember farther back. Just be sure that whatever crossmember you use is designed to brace the frame rails parallel like the original did. You don't want to just attach the crossmember to the lower web of the rail because the rails will want to twist without support. Here's a thread with pics where one of the board members installed a 351W in an F-1:

I'm right in the middle of installing a 69 351w with the c6 in my 49 f47 right now. You will have no problems with this transplant except for the trans cross member as Blue Oval mention above. What I have done is removed the original cross member with out butchering it. I ground of all the rivets and moved it back to the c6 trans mount location. I'll fabricate a bracket to match up and weld it to the x mem. This method requires that you fabricate some small spacers out of 3/8 plate for the ends of the original cross member because the frame is wider here. It is a bit of work to make this work but it is a lot cheaper than the aftermarket tubes and it is original. Only thing is, you will lose your stock brake m/c and pedal.

I bought a 86 ford van with a 351w HO, and c6 for $350 for my 50 f1. Motor had a bad fuel line but ran when pouring gas in the carb. I pulled everything off the van I wanted and sold the rest. Got all my money back plus some and still have parts to sell. A fork lift helps pulling a body off a van to get the motor out. Was a fun project in itself. I swapped the 9in from the van with my uncle for one that fits good in the f1 - was pulled from a 69 ford truck. I kept the tranny crossmember from the van to use in the f1. Will need to mod it a little and pull out the original but should work out real swell. Using a cpp motor crossmember as well. Still working on my frame and suspension right now then moving on to installing the motor and tranny. Thanks for all the words of wisdom, hope I can do a little in sharing my story.
