going to buy a 00 expedition with a 4.6L YES it need work but how much

ok i am looking to go buy a 2000 Ford expedition with a 4.6 L with 140K on it i know it needs the fallowing rockers (no big deal) i all so know it needs a universal joint in the Front end fixed ( I HOPE ) and it has a skip does not skip when it is cold it does when it is warm going down the road i have no idea what that could be i am thinking coil or plug they said they changed one out but no change they did not put it on a scan tool. there is all so NO check engine light in some ways i am thinking a valve but there is no smoke all so there is not alot of power.
now the thing about the front end they say it is a universal joint i had to turn around in some ones yard and it was not plowed started spinning i put it in 4 hi i hurd a loud pop like pop pop pop i stopped and switched it back to the setting all the way up (not shire what it is) the popping noise went away in some ways sounded like a mini back fire.
Breaks there is little to none fluid in the reservoir there is breaks but very little i am thinking break line's
but i am only paying 1100.00 for it and i am mechanically inclined and she is right on the cost where there is ALOT of salt air so all things given she is in good shape
my ideas about skip
coil / plug
valve ( did not do compression test )
head gasket (" ")
fuel filter

Sounds to me like you are buying into a lot of problems, and those are just the ones you know about.

go for it. Price is great. Miles aren't bad at all. My Expy pops some when you hit the gas in 4x4 sometimes also. Read on another forum that it is normal forget what reasoning was. Yours could be something else, but for $1100 i would have a hard time walking away from that. I paid that much for my 97 F150 2wd with a blown motor

with the visible rust on top I will almost guarantee it will need trailing arms in the rear...

Walk away. There are dozens and dozens of these vehicles available. With visible rust through the bumper, I know the underside won't look good either. For the trailing arms, look here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ics-added.html. The arms come off the back of the rear axle and keep the axle straight.

Any pops are not normal. I didn't read the whole post but maybe ball joints? When going into 4L, there will be a thud as the transfer case slips into low. At minimum, you have over $500 in fluids and parts for a complete tune up.

So now your vehicle is a $1600 truck (minimum). Save your money and buy a nicer Expy. I do not intend to come across mean spirited with this post, just sincerity.

in my area, a 2000 with 140k books at over $6000. Even $1600 and some TLC is a steal

I paid 7k for my lifted X in Aug 2010 and I am glad I did, mine even had high mileage, but it was taken very good care of with basically brand new suspension, wheels, tires and very good maintenance records. I tried the buy cheap route with vehicles, and by the end of the day, you will end up sinking more money into a cheaper vehicle with tons of problems than you will if you spend some extra money up front for a decent vehicle with much fewer problems. Unless you know every single little problem with that specific truck than I would pass on it. JMHO.

no i agree i have over 15 yrs on the old stuff distributor car rotor button wire set up i do not on these each plug has a coil i all so do my own body work i need to check tomorrow to see if the trailing arms are junk. then i might not buy it all the people i have spoke to says that the chances of the valves, head gasket's being bad is slim and all most every one i talk to says the coil / coils are bad i just picked up two good ones off a 99 crown vic the poping noise i am all most 99% shure it is bad u joints breaks it has some breaks but not much i am thinking bad line or bad wheel cyl fluid is low. and reading the set up of the 4 wheel drive system a4wd you run in two wheel drive till it feels the front wheels sliping then it activates 4wd when i engaged 4 wheel drive the was putting pressure on the u joints and making them snap due to the poping noise.

if i am wrong please correct me

if you look at map you will see a yellow mark that is where i am getting it
i live where it says Bangor 1hr 45 min away

I think you are spot on. If you want something with zero problems, spend $6000. But if you don't mind working on it and putting some money in it, jump on it.

my Lincoln LS I used to have had the COP's too, when one went bad it misfired alot too while driving. I would hook it up to a scanner and see if it tells you which cylinder has a misfire and go from there. Replace all plugs, air filter, pcv's, and maybe clean MAF sensor. While you are at it I would clean the IAC just cause. 140k isn't alot of miles, I have a real hard time believing it is more then a COP or sensor or something like that.
