Andrew I sent you an email.

Here I thought the rims on my old 1956 F250 were the stock rims. Guess not if they didn't have them until 58.

Yes, you are correct, B8D-1015-A is listed in the 1948/56 catalog for 1956 (I edited in the info). I didn't look in this catalog (stupid of me), I only went by the part number's prefix.

But, what was the part number in 1956? It wasn't B8D since this is a 1958 prefix. When Ford updated the part number, did Budd update their number?

I couldn't find the original 1956 Ford part number listed in my O-S-I (Obsolete-Supercede-Interchange) catalogs.

I don't find a 1956 Ford part number in the wheel listings, and my Hollander doesn't list it either. NWRA info shows the '56 Budd number was 70720 which then changed to 73240. I've got one of each different number and they look exactly alike, so I've assumed it was just a number update like so often happens with parts. But with both Ford and Budd numbers having changed, maybe there is a subtle difference in each that isn't obvious to the eye. I guess it's academic, either or both will work for Andrew.

Edit - I just remembered that my buddy Rusty has an original '56/'57 Chassis Manual. I just called him and will try to walk him through looking up the original '56 number when he can get to his shop and grab the book. Stu

I tried finding the 1956 Ford part number by crossing over the original Budd number, but it's not listed in my 1957/63, 1964/72 truck parts catalogs.

Bill - The '56/'57 Chassis Manual shows the 17.5" is #B6D 1015-A. The 19.5" has the same number as shown in the 1964 edition. Stu

And right now it's about 10 below 0 outside. So it would probably be spring before I could get to them dig them out and get the tires pulled off.

Thanks Ted, I got your mail.

Stu - Presumably these wheels are the right ones to fit my truck?

I might be interested in the ones 49ford does not take. How much? I would probably pick them up.

Thanks,

I've got a pair of the 17.5s presently mounted on an F-3 rear end having the 14" drums. CarlH has a full set mounted on his 49 F-3. But I understand that you're making a big investment decision based on my input, and that I need to be sure I'm giving you straight answers. It would be a good idea for the guys doing the selling to run their part numbers past me before payment and shipment I guess. The part numbers will be on the concave side along the raised curved surface of the drop center. I'll pull one of my wheels and see if I can get a good picture of the number location. I can tell from Ted's pictures that his wheels are the tubeless variety based upon the look of the rim profile. The bolt pattern is another aspect that will not vary. All are 8 lug x 6.5" bolt circle. The center holes will all be the same, and the offset/backspace will be the same as your stock wheels. Also, we can tell from Ted's pictures that the stock hub caps will mount. The wheels have the hub cap nubs on the inner face of the wheel centers rather than on the outer face as later wheels have. So, I'm as sure as I can be that these will work for you. I'll come back later and edit to add a picture of the number location. Stu

Edit - Here are pics of both my wheel numbers as cited in my first post. I'll also add a front view pic of one of my 17.5s to let you compare it to Ted's, and last will be a stock F-3 widowmaker 17". Stu

19.5 = B6D-1015-B

17.5 = B6D-1015-A replaced by B8D-1015-A

When I get my rims dug out and the tires pulled I will post more pictures of them and any part #'s I can find on them. But it may be a while.

Hi Lance65

Ted (Fordman75) went to a lot of effort to dig out his rims and get the tyres off only to find they aren't in good shape (pin holes etc - Thanks anyway Ted). Do you still have that set of 17.5's that you want rid of?

If so do they match up with the part numbers in this post, how many you got, and how much did you want for them? Could you ship them?

Please let me know as I running out of time to find some wheels for my truck to roll on! My email address is [email protected] if you want to drop me mail.

Thanks
Andrew

Andrew - If one of the other guys has only two good ones I'll send you my two to give you a set.

Another option would be the custom wheels that we've seen made by Stockton Wheel. In this attached thread Stockton took original widowmaker centers and put them in new 17" outer rims. The member is very happy with them, and I've got to admit I'm impressed too. Stu

Thanks Stu, let's see who comes up with offers of any wheels.

Whilst the Stockton wheels look good I have the issue of getting my windowmakers from the UK to the USA.

It wouldn't have to be your widowmakers. One of us over here, and probably close by in California, has widowmakers sitting around that they could donate. Admittedly this scheme would involve a lot of moving parts. Like an old fire truck rally a guy on here tried to coordinate a few years ago! And you'd have to make sure Stockton had their heads screwed on straight to be sure everything came together cleanly. Stu
