Sacramento Vintage Ford 3" Drop Axle

Im thinking of getting it for my 51 F1.
Anybody using this axle or know anything about it?
Likes? Dislikes? Quality? Is it worth $400?
Ive also looked at Nostalgia Sids drop axle but think I like this one better.
Opinions on both?
Other axles available?

I think I was one of the unlucky ones with this axle. I purchase one in 2007 and the camber was off by more than 3 degree both sides. I called the guy who made the axle and he said to get it fixed which he paid for; the axle bent in the middle and the spring pad welds broke; other than that it sat really well and drove OK. I sent it back to the vendor and brought an original axle that was stretched which is what I have now.

I'm no engineer, but it always seemed to me that whenever you weld three pieces of dis-similar metals together and try to use it to hold up 3000 pounds, with the stress placed right over the weld joint, well.... it just doesn't seem right, to me. They may be perfectly fine, but my brain tells me that what happened to Jaye wouldn't be a fluke. It wouldn't be my choice.

My 2c, fwiw.

I was thinking about that also. Hopefully the axle ends slip inside the crosstube for added strength and are then welded....

Maybe I will have take another look at the Nostalgia Sids extended axle...

From an ispection of the one I had it appears that the square solid piece was butt welded to the round tube, then the plates welded over both pieces.

That was going to be my question. Where did you find it, or do you know someone that can modify one for about a 2" drop?

Nostaligia Sids sells a 2" and 3" stretched axle for $300 ($350 w/out core). They are the only other company I know that sells them....thats why I wanted to know which axle jaye has.

Glad to hear it!! Thats reassuring since I just bought one from him today. I hate forking out that much money without physically seeing it first. Cant wait to get it and put it in though.
