In 99 I bought a 90 5speed Bronco with 150,000 miles on it and I paid $4,300. I'm now looking at an 89 5speed that is supposed to be rust free in NC with 150,000 on it and the guy is asking $2,800. What's the most I should give for a 5.0L with a 5speed transmission?
Welcome to FTE and the Big Bronco Forum. We will do our best to get you the most accurate information we can.
Since we can't see it or drive it its hard to be certain but the $2800 doesn't sound bad if everything works. The issue here is to be sure that 5.0 isn't on its way out. With 150K on the ticker a close inspection of the PCV system and the amount of crud in the air-box under the filter would be my suggestion along with a nice hard drive on streets and highways. Obviously, make sure all of the driveline variables work, trans, t-case etc.
Thanks. We are going to check it out tomorrow. Is the 5.0L going to be bad at 150k?.......or will it last longer if it was taken care of? Is there a place on here to find common failure items for a 89 with 5.0L 5spd?
how did the rear end get messed up? did the rear gears go out or you literally had the rear diff come off the bronco?
I would also assume that ford would not have inspected the rear end or front end for that matter. mainly tranny, engine and perhaps tcase at most. then take it to a shop you know and trust. Personally i think that price is to high for that year truck. Im not a fan of a 5.0 in these broncos and know that tranny is weak and prone to failure as well.
I agree with Kem completely especially on the 5.0 in the full-size. Smaller or bigger would be my suggestion. Smaller if you want the bottom end "umph" and bigger if you want the performance on the highway.
