87-91 butterface years

Blue Rebel, you read my mind! I think what makes an 87-91 look good is a big cow killer bumper on the front, or at least some sort of grill guard... and 4+ inches of lift and some big ol meats. I have to say the 87-91 is probably my least favorite of the 80-96 trucks and Broncos. But it's not a total loss, there are things you can do to make em look better. My personal favorite is the 80-86 trucks, they have more personality than any of them. They seem to carry over some of the styling features of the 73-79 trucks. I like the 92-96 look too but there are some things that annoy me about it. Being 6'2" the interior feels small and cramped to me.

The cab of the 85 seemed huge after driving the 72 Courier for many years. Now that was cramped and I'm 6-2 also. After I gave the 85 to my dad in the late 80's, I only drove extended cab trucks of different makes until I recently got my 94. It's not too bad with a tilt wheel. I got to drive a 98 for a few months that the company I worked for at the time. I hated everything about the truck except the room in the cab and it was a regular cab. That thing was spacious, but damn, the dash made me want to puke.

I completely agree with those who consider the 87-91 styling to be more appropriate for tougher-looking trucks. We have at least two very fine examples to be found in this thread with Blue Rebel's truck and the green truck from Alaska. Big-*** tires are almost a requirement IMO for any nice-looking truck of both the 80-86 and 87-91 styles as their front ends look much better at an angle from a lower point of view.
On the other hand, if we're talking about a garaged and waxed 2wd RCSB, nothing comes close to a 92-96 (with the paddle mirrors and chrome grille, obviously).

Look at the "Show Off your Truck" thread, page 309: I found by chance a few pics of two Australian bricknoses. (I really like that white one, FWIW...)

What's funny is that they have the 80-86 dashboard... (can't really see it on that page, but I know it.)

I like that black bumpside! Looks sharp! Needs chrome though.
I do have to say the bump/dent sides do have rather small cabs. I almost bought on a 1975 F100 Explorer 390 FE block, 3 speed on the tree, no power and no power brakes, was orange! The perfect truck i've been looking for, for a long time last Saturday. I sat in it for a while looking at everything, the seat was all the way back, and my knee hits the steering wheel when I move my leg from the gas pedal to the brake. But still, still nice and drivable for me! With a big ol' hard plastic skinny steering wheel!

80-86 gauges vs 87-91
Ive been driving my 89 as a daily for about 6 years and i still dont like the interior! The earlier trucks definitely had it right. The old metal dash trucks and ford ended with the 86 because in 87 they just went to crap.
how can you argue with the simplicity and style. There were less wires under the hood than there are in a new trucks door!

I know around here they kept the 80-86 dash in big trucks up until late 90s. We have a 96 bucket truck with an fseries cab on it and an older dash. Maybe the aussie trucks since they were RHD kept an old dash for longer?
