I saw this truck about 12 years ago in Sutherlin, OR, just north of Roseberg. It was owned by the late Herb Hobi who was selling it. I think it may have been a plow truck originally. I remember the brown undercarriage. Interesting that it would turn up on ebay.

I'm only about 15 minutes from the city where the truck is located. I've never seen it around. It may have came out from hibernation for the listing photos.

If any one is interested in bidding on the truck, I'll gladly do the inspection for you.

Funny how those of us in the MH hobby know about a lot of these trucks. Owen and I have swapped notes about Herb's yellow F-5 in past years. When a new one comes out of the weeds it's big news. Yesterday it happened the other way around. I emailed Chuck asking him a question and the conversation led to a couple of trucks that we both knew about. Turned out the two trucks were actually only one truck that had changed ownership and had changed its appearance. It had given up its bed and hood. So now there is one less F-3 MH out there than I thought. Here's the before and after pics of it.

Also, on the subject, here are three MH ads that are on CL. Plus a fourth. Pete has his 42 listed too. Stu

Iyla,

Traffic must be getting better! In the late 70's I lived in Campbell and worked in Palo Alto. 15 minutes would have been a record! I use to commute in Willard when he had the 56 Buick nailhead. The gent that I bought it from bought in downtown San Jose in 1962 and it had the nailhead then.
Looks like a good truck. Lots of action on the bidding already.

The top one is from Aaska, correct? I think the fellow used the bed and hood on his 2wd, then did Chuck by it?

Both pics are of the same Alaska truck. I originally thought it was two different trucks. Yes, the guy probably robbed the MH to fix up his 2WD F-2. Go figure. The second picture of it parted I pulled from the Bonus Built site when it was owned by a guy with user name "Big Donny". He had it for sale, and I was swapping notes with him about it, then he never came back on BB. So I don't know what happened to it. Except to say that Chuck didn't buy it. In my emails with Chuck yesterday he said he'd been in talks with the first guy, Brandon, about it because Chuck wanted the transfer case. The guy didn't actually know what it was and had told Chuck it was a 51 with a single speed transfer case (R3-4) which would have been the same case used in the F-1s. Chuck said that he never then heard back from the Brandon guy. Probably instead the truck gave its bed and hood to the F-2 and found its way to Big Donny. Where it is today is anybody's guess. Stu

So what type of stock bed fits on a M-H 4x4 f5? It looks like a f2/f3 bed with bigger holes cut in the rear fenders for clearance. Also, the front fenders look like they've been cut into as well.

Stock front fenders and regular F2/3 bed and fenders, I believe. The plow trucks had a shorter wb, if I'm not mistaken. I stand to be corrected. It was a "put together" truck, nto factory, I know that.

And they look smaller than 20s. I've sat here with the wheel pics blown up as big as the laptop will go, and have flipped it on its side to see if I could read the size on the sidewall. No luck. I'm gonna stick my neck out and say they're 18s. Not a common size in a lock ring, but I know that Budd did make them. If they're 20s, they're pretty narrow ones because they just don't look that tall compared to the pic of the red truck above that is clearly on 20s. Stu

I can't say for sure, what with the passing of time, but I don't remember the frame appearing to be cut. May have been a neat job.

You're probably right. I've just never heard of any leaving the factory with less that the 134" wheel base of the standard cab models. And what I know of the truck is all second hand. You've put your hands on it. Stu
