Spinella, I solved the towing limitation.

Kinda has a Madd Max look to it. Especially if I bumped into something and squashed the jerry can.

No worries, I won't be driving this way.

OLD THREAD, SORRY.
Sean, I looked at all the pics and video. The lugs that you have on the spare tire, they are'nt the correct ones for the factory wheels. Do you have factory lugs for the spare factory wheel when you bolt it onto the truck? I didn't see what wheels you have on your X now.

You're right, good eye. The carrier came with some generic lugs, but the right diameter and thread for an Ex. The used CL rims I got take the longer, tapered lug, so it worked out.

Ok. I just was curious and wanted to ask. I just wanted to be sure that you were safe in case you had to use the spare.

A little off topic, anyone know if you can fit a 37 in the factory location?

IDK, I am going to try to put a 315/75R16 in the factory location. The swinging hitch mounts are pricey and I've just dumped all my money in other things. I'll probably go with a roof rack instead. A Surco Safari rack is like $500 with all the hardware.

For now I am going to try to put my spare in the stock location though. I'll let you know how it works out, and if I think you could get a couple more inches.

I'm pretty sure you are going to be SOL on 37" though. From what I remember it looks like it might fit 33" tires, I kinda doubt the 35" tire will fit.

The 315 will fit, a bit of a squeeze, but it'll fit. I used a longer bolt to hold it in place and removed the molded plastic filler piece on the floor. A 37'' tire will be crooked; won't stand in there straight, might need to modify the interior side panel?

I wonder where I can find that carpet material (color matched) so I could have my girlfriend's seamstress friend make me a cover that fits.

Anyone have any idea?

Hey Sean, does the third row seat still fit with the 35's?
Also is that with a stock rim?

Thanks in advance,

It's the stock aluminum rim, not the steelie. That's why I think I needed a longer bolt. The 3rd row seat just squeezes by, but yes can be installed.

Great idea on the home-made carpet tire cover. Should be something of similar color available on the web. I've purchased vinyl covers from e-trailer.com that will easily fit a 35'' tire.
