What oil to spray in cylinders?

Before I try to start the engine in my new toy, I want to spray the clyinders since it has been sitting for about 2 years. What would be the best spray,? Marvel or what.
Thanks all.

I would use motor oil then roll it over alot to build oil pressure, disconnect the coil or something.

Basically, ANY mineral oil will work.

If you like MMO (mineral oil, Stoddard solvent, & 1% lard) Marvel Mystery Oil AKA "Snake-Oil" then use it!!

Yes Marvel Mystery Oil is still being marketed. A good hardware store should have it. Not one of the big box stores but an old fasioned hardware store. Maybe a good auto parts store also.

They still make Marvel Mystery Oil - my local NAPA carries it. The ol' flathead guys use it for everything - top cylinder oilers, gas additive, oil additive, un-sticking stuck engines, etc.

Most any oil would work. If you have compression problems due to sticky rings some guys prefer ATF to loosen things up.

Is this a rebuild starting for first time? Or older that's just been sitting?

Spurredon,
I just got the truck that is my picture. Supposedly the truck was running when the man who had purchased it in November 1951, died and it was parked. The engie is free but I don't want to try cranking till I get some oil on top of the cylinders. The speedometer shows 61,000 miles.

Another good idea is to run the oil pump with a drill to get oil circulated back to the bearings, valves etc before trying to start it.

If it is turning over freely then no additional oil should be needed. Change the oil in the crankcase and light her off, she'll pump the oil for ya. No need fouling the plugs and adding a real problem.
