Ok so I have a 2000 PSD 150k on it and when it's cold, only when it's cold, it makes a wooshing sound when under light acceleration. Once it warms up for about 15 minutes it stops doing it. It will also do it while it idles. Any ideas oh Ford guru's?
First off Welcome to FTE. Now to the question that will be your EBPV closing to help with worming up your engine. No worries this is normal.
EBPV= Exhaust Back Pressure Valve
Exactly like Richard said ^^^^^^
If you let it warm up when its cold it will make the sound. Cycle,start and leave truck alone and then in about a minute the EBPV will close and the jet engine whoosh you describe will start until you depress brake pedal.
If you don't like it, you can unplug the sensor at the front of the engine just below the passenger side corner of the PSD plastic engine cover. It won't even set off the check engine light.
I got tired of hearing it when driving around town, so it's unplugged now.
Thanks guys. That's exactly what it is, and does go away after I hit the brake. A buddy said "it can be adjusted with a special wrench" so it doesn't do it as often. Is that possible?
Oh and thanks for the welcome. This place is awesome. Especially since now the power locks work in all four doors thanks to you!
