2004 F250 6.0 Diesel choking out, blowing smoke

After the truck gets warmed up it starts to hesitate and when at stop lights when ready to accelerate it chokes out but doesn't die. I have changed out fuel filters and the air filter and it still is choking out. Blows a lot of white smoke once it starts to accelerate. Any suggestion on what needs to be replaced?

IF you are not losing coolant, and if it smells like diesel smoke.

Clean and verify EGR valve, intake plenum, and italian tuneup.

Likely cause carbon jamming valve, etc.

Thank you much, it sounds like that is exactly what the problem is. Sounds like its not a inexpensive fix. Would replacing the EGR valve do it or would I have to replace the EGR cooler also?

When you do the egr valve, there is a way to check for leaks --- park car tilting forward and check for wetness.. see procedure in tech folder.

It's easy to do, just hard to pull that little sucker out.

Undo both bolts. Twist until the eyes the bolts go through are accessible, then I tied some heavy duty wire into each eye and made a loop. Took a piece of re-bar through the loop and used the alternator as a pry location and pulled up hard and quick.

In the picture, you can just see the EGR valve
