AIS VS. S&B

AIS VS. S&B
Currently my truck is equipped with the AIS intake, although I have the fender sleeve in my possession,it has never been installed. Now I have a GTP38R that I will be installing soon as well as adding some type of tuning. Will a GTP38R and tuning require more air than the AIS is capable of? Will drilling the hole and adding the fender sleeve really fix the problem or more like a band aid solution?
So I was considering selling my AIS before drilling it and buying the S&B dry setup. Would I gain much by switching to the S&B?
Is the S&B capable of flowing more air than the Donaldson in the AIS?

I have the S+B stage II in mine.
It pulled air from the fender.
I was really loud over the stock cleaner.
Alot of air noise,sucking air.
I noticed an increase in the seat of the pants though.
I ended up cutting a hole in the front of it and ran the front intake tube from the hole up through core sup[port and purchased another stock front intake so I could reach headlight mount panel.
I drille some holes in headlight mount so I could pull air from front.
This made it alot quieter.

OK I think I will stick with the AIS. I am due for a new filter so thought I would explore my options before buying a filter. I should have bought 2 filters back in 2005 when they where cheap, the price for the replacement element is a lot more now
What kind of mileage are AIS users seeing out of a filter?

The graph below gives the measured "H2O restriction vs CFM flow rate" for the stock (FA-1750) 7.3L filter and for the S&B (KF-1006) 7.3L filter and as you can see both filters flow the same 950 CFM airflow!
You can also see the S&B has less restriction than the FA-1750 but does that mean replacing the stock air filter with an S&B will result in more FWHP? Well I can find one report where the stock (FA-1750) filter was used in a 500 FWHP application and I've also done an analysis that indicates 500 FWHP is possible using a stock filter!
I think it's important to use an air filter that has a lab certified "Dirt Filtering Efficiency" that's at least as good as the ISO-5011 tested 99.76% "Dirt Filtering Efficiency" of the stock FA-1750 filter. The S&B filters dirt almost as well as the stock filter does but due to its lower dirt holding capacity the S&B must be serviced much more often than the stock element needs to be replaced!
I always recommend upgrading to a 7.3L AIS FA-1759 to get its proven "Dirt Filtering Efficiency" of 99.97%. Just calculate the total cubic miles of dirt laden air that gets sucked into a 7.3L PSD during its life expectancy and you'll see the importance of the extra 0.21% Dirt Filtering Efficiency that's provided by the 7.3L AIS!
However with either the stock air filter box or the improved box of the 7.3L AIS the seal between the top of the air filter element and the lid of the air box should be sealed with petroleum jelly. I used a toothpaste size squeeze tube and applied a continuous bead around the perimeter of the top of the filter element and then seated the lid into this bead and secured the clamps.
I originally got this idea of using petroleum jelly because my Banks stinger kit included a drop in K&N element for my upgraded 99.5 air box and the kit also included a tube of "K&N filter grease" along with directions for how to apply it! Just Google... "K&N filter grease" ...and you'll get the whole story... "K&N Air Filter Facts You Should Know... Use K&N Air Filter Sealing Grease on the sealing surface that contacts the air box ...K&N sealing grease is compatible with all types of air filters, not just reusable K&N air filters, and all types of air boxes."
