Get an Explorer, used, and save huge piles of cash. It's safe (enough), depreciated some, and will get far better mileage. I honestly can't imagine commuting in an F250 more than a handful of miles. The cost of tires, batteries, antifreeze, oil, etc. (especially for a Diesel) is high.

If your dead set on a Super Duty and good mpg, get a 2wd reg. cab 2011 with a 6.7 and standard gears. That will yield the best economy. Otherwise consider something smaller.

For what you want, maybe you should get a Jeep Wrangler. Add a lift it, big tires, snorkel, winch, roll bar and have fun with it.

It would have to be a 4x4. I guess a super duty would be pointless for me to commute without towing anything. With the exception of the new ones, what year diesel got the best mileage? Maybe I will buy an older one to use as a toy and make a dedicated fun vehicle.

Well i drive like 130 miles to next city about 3 times a week. need big pockets at the gas station!
But on the plus side!
its like riding in my own personal office! Room for my laptop, and still passenger and then the SC.
rolling down the interstate, I'm the second biggest ride on it!

-snow bound! what more would u want! Good tiers and the weight of the truck will get ya through anything! Last year became my works only vehicle to travel to and from Omaha during snowstorms!(rest of the crew drive cars! hehe)<-this is my 2002
my new 2011- drove it through the Midwest storm second week of Dec. from Massachusetts to home, it was like driving through a simply rain storm. Everyone felt safe to keep on trucking while every one was pulling off we keep on moving!

Final point is BUY a super duty cause its FREAKING SUPER just ignore mpg's

Oh yeah and my new Crew cab is like having a office with a waiting room in back

I have a 2005 F150 with 125k miles on it. i do not tow, it has the small v8 and is essentially my commuter. I keep up with oil canges and such and i am on my 3rd freakin engine. I am a Ford Fan, but I would not suggest buying an F150 if you intend on running it for a long time.

that's a tough story there must be another issue going on, the best part about the 150s to me has been how durable and reliable they are. Im guessing you have the 4.6 we have one with 250k miles on it that tends to get overloaded on ocassion (rock, trash, dirt, etc.) and it wont stop. We have about 10 work models now from v6-v8 all tough as nails great ride good mpg

Back to the OP-- go with a 150 think crew cab and maybe the 6.5ft bed if you want more space. Lots on aftermarket out there and very capable for what you want. 250 and 350 are about the same truk and i think its a little overkill for what you want

> I've bought my 2005 f250 for that exact reason. There's only 1 thing that bothers me, when the weather is bad and you're passing someone, the lanes aren't wide enough to skid/slip far because the truck is so wide.

I want to have a daily driver that will plow through some sick snow. I will look at mods later but I want to maintain fuel mileage/ higher speed ability with maybe increasing my fuel mileage.

> Snow? huh, who cares when you driving this beast. The only problem I see is, snow tires aren't easy to find for my tire size. (275/65r20)

Would an unloaded F250/F350 with a gas engin allways give better highway mileage than a diesel? What could I expect MPG wise? I was reading and seen that the 08's have smog crap. How expensive is it to remove this (I am not a mechanic). I am considering an 00-09 truck with the 08's being my favorite models.

What year engine gave the best mileage on the highway?

Will a F250/ F350 ever get better gas mileage than a F150/ Dodge Ram 5.7 hemi/ or Dodge Ram Cummins? Fuel mileage is important to me.

> Compare the cost of running this truck for a year compared to a smaller car, can you afford the difference?

Other than heavyer suspension what would I be gaining with an F350 over a 250 for my uses?

Is it possible to take an F250/F350 as many places as an F150 or jeep cherokee? I am thinking the 250 will be ligher and better off road than a 350. I could be wrong so I figured I would ask the experts.

> Yeah, I wouldn't go offroading with a "stock" super duty, because it's pretty damm heavy & wide!

Could I expect better mileage from a Dodge? I love Fords but since I am not towing I want the best mileage possible. Thanks!
Hope that helps..

Why not get an older 6.9? They got good milleage, offered in 4x4, can plow if needed, and is cheap. It'll need some repairs but that's where the cheap part comes in handy. You'll still have a budget for repairs.

From what I have heard the old 7.3L got the best mileage due to the lack of smog gear. That said from just looking for my own Super Duty people like their 7.3's too much to sell them often and the ones that are for sale are often beat to hell and back or my own case the wrong body style for what I need to do.

Honestly I would get a Ranger or F150 for highway use and a Jeep Wrangler or Bronco as a 4x4 fun ride.
