Anyone swapped a Explorer V8 into a ranger?

I have a idea to do a swap of a 3.0L 4x4 ranger and with the a 5.0 or 4.6 w/ the tranny and t-case into my ranger? has anyone done it? besides the computer, what other types of mods need to be done? Drive shafts, etc?

Im 95% sure its been done.

It would probally make sense to convert for RWD though. It would take alot of effore to rig up 4x4.

It's been done a bunch of times. The Expo 5.0 is super easy to swap.

A lot of times if you get one about the same year, the plugs will match.

What year of truck do you have?

It's been done by many people. Your best bet is to grab a cold beer, sit down at your computer and google "Ford Ranger V8 conversion", and then start doing some serious reading. All the info you need is out there.

I've got a '00. I'd want the 4 wheel drive to work as well, MN winters can be harsh and my other truck is 2wd.

Stay with the 5.0......The 4.6 will involve a lot of extra work.

Go with the 5.0 powerplant from an explorer. It shouldn't take much. The hardest thing is to get the truck towed to ford to have the PATS system adjusted for the new motor or it wont crank over. A few members on Ford Ranger Forum - The Ultimate Ford Ranger Resource swapped explorer v8's and they're from Minnesota also. One is an 03 and the other is a 99, same body style as yours.

Yep, swap been done many, many time. The explorer 5.0L is the easest by far. One over in Minn did the 4.6 swap and took a lot of fabrication. I've got the same truck as you and got the 5.0 sitting in the stand right now. Ranger Power Sports has a really good write up on what is involved for the '98' and newer. Quite a few have stayed with the AWD Explorer set-up. Got any questions, just PM me, got lots of info here.
