You will have to rig the body mounts like you mentioned to clear the kick-up on the regular cab frame. When it's all said and done, I don't know if the bed will line up correctly with the cab and the rear wheel or not. I think the extended cab trucks had a different wheel base, so you might have to make a custom flatbed to make it all work out.

If I recall correctly, super cab short bed truck were about 2" shorter wheel base than a regular cab long bed.

The 91 frame is too wide for the early truck body.

A guy on here did this a few years ago, i saved a pic :P...the front of the box got cut a couple inches, said it was real easy too just riveted it back together IIRC.

I'd imagine you'd have to cut the box, cause my '89 has a short box on a long bed frame reg cab, and theres only a 18" gap.

Did you mean an 86 F250? If so then you can do a frame swap real easy.

The frame layout is quite a bit different between a regular cab long bed and an extended cab short bed. Between a reg cab and ex cab, there is 22" more frame between the cab mounts, between the rear of the transmission crossmember and before the frame kicks up to the rear cab mounts.
Where you can see the weld on the frame here:

There used to be another 22" there, I shortened the ex cab chassis to fit a reg cab.

Now for bed legnth, the 16" difference in wheelbase is found between the front set of bed bolts and the front hangar for the rear springs.

So, even if you do overcome the obstacle of getting the cab to sit properly on the frame(I have seen a crew cab on a reg cab chassis with a sectioned rear floor to clear the frame before) You are going to have to cut 6" out of the bed.

This is a doable project, but, far from any sort of a bolt on deal.

I think the general consensus on this was, it's easier to swap a drivetrain from a standard cab to a complete extended cab truck, than it is to swap a cab and bed over to a regular cab frame. Just something to think about.

I know this is old, But I always wondered what the gap is for? Did you try to go into reverse a little to fast once?
