No HomeLink & No Mirror Vanity Lights
Hi All,
My '01 EB Expy has no power to either the Home Link or the Vanity Lights in the visor... I have the feeling like they're probably related and it's just a fuse, but I haven't been able to find the circuit nor a bad fuse..??? Suggestions where to look?

Both visor's vanity lights or just the driver's side? There is a black connector with two wires/contacts in the visor hinge (remove the two phillips head screws). Check the wires with a test light or meter. One is non keyed power the other is a ground. Could be a fuse, but I would suspect other systems would not be working (it is hard for me to think there is a fuse to run just the visors).

Are the map lights working? How about the glove compartment and underhood lights? Does the rear wiper and washer work? From what I can tell, these are all on the same circuit and are powered by the GEM (Generic Electronic Module). They should have a fuse to protect them as well. Check the owners manual for fuse location. Let me know what works and does not work. I have an earlier truck, but would bet they are similar.

Hi...
Map Lights only work when turnd on by unlocking truck, door opening, or dimmer switch activating interior lights. Does not work on thier own, however if you flip the dimmer switch turning them on, the individual switch will work to turn off the light that you don't want on (either D/S or P/S or both if you wanted to light the rear). Glove compartment lights work. Under hood light works some of the time, always just thought it was a finiky mercury switch, but never investigated or would have thought it was connected.
Thanks,

Didmyou ever resolve this issue? What was the answer?

On my 2004 expedition it was a wire in the passenger sun visor. One of the three screws cut the wire. I'm sure it was the guy that removed my headliner to fix hail damage.
Fuse 24 (15amp) would pop immediately when replaced. Map lights, glove box, rear ceiling lights would only work with the dimmer switch by the steering wheel. So far all is working except for the passenger vanity light. Maybe I didn't fix the wires good enough. Who knows?? I'll update post if I ever figure it out.
Ugh!

All these problems (and any other electrical germlins you might have) are caused by the GEM module. The GEM is located underneath the dash behind the fusebox. If you have these problems, chances are your GEM has experienced some water damage. To prevent any further damage to your car you will have to go to an auto-glass shop and have your windshield re-glued. This is a common problem on Expeditions/F-150's, the glue used from the factory would dry out and shrink over time allowing water to enter through the windshield, drip down the A-pillar and damage the GEM. I delayed on this repair and paid a much heftier price when a big rain storm came, so I do recommend doing it soon. I've had all the following issues, no map lights, no mirror lights, no rear wiper/washer, no under hood light, a blown subwoofer amp, and a whole bunch of popped relays and fuses for various other things. All these were fixed with a new GEM module.

FWIW: I have a 2010 Lincoln MKS that had the same issue (both vanity mirrors and HomeLink wasn't lighting up). I checked all the fuses that were listed as "vanity mirror" in the manual. Out of several fuses, one 15 was blown. Changed it and everything worked since. I haven't ever experienced the lights/HomeLink problem on my Expo, but thought I would throw out something similar.

Vanity Mirror not lighting up
I was having the same problem with my 2006 Expedition. Turns out the wire in the passenger side visor had been cut by constantly flipping the visor up and down. I added some new wire and it works fine now. Make sure to tighten the screws well when replacing the visor or it will not work.
