I have a 1986 F-150, 351 HO, holley 4 barrel, C6 trans.(no OD), 2.xx rear(highway), stock ign., stock exhaust, 150,000 mi. and get 10.4 MPG. Loaded or empty.But I still love this truck!
You've got 2.73 gears on a 351? That's got to be a unique combination. I've never personally seen one...I know they put that gear on the 300 I6 but didn't know they put it on the V8.
FWIW, I'm not saying I don't believe you. It just blows my mind why Ford ever put the 2.73 gear on a truck period.
1993 4x4 auto 10 mpg all day long whether pulling a load or loafing down the highway. It is my nicest truck, unfortunately, because of the mileage, the one I drive the least.
My 1990 F250 with 5.8 and 5 speed zf, with a new engine not really broke in gets about 14 mpg city and 16.2 mpg highway, I was kind of suprised to be honest. not sure what gears I have but I spin 2000 rpm at 65 mph, about 2200 at 70 mph, so maybe a 3:73? dunno. I have true duals with flowmasters is the only performance upgrade i have!
