The issue is almost likely with the "two finger" hood side brackets that are mounted on the sides of the cab/cowl. They need to be adjusted. Try loosening them from the inside of the cab and see how your hood closes with the hinges being slightly loose. Retighten them while the hood is closed.

That's how I made the adjustment in my 52.

hinges

I hope i didn't mess these hinges up. I saw that they had alot of lose play so before i painted them i used a hammer to tighten them up. They still moved freely but took the slope out of them. SO just how much play should they have ?

Here's the profile shot.

Side shot.

Not sure where you tightened them up, but you probably you have left them alone. If they still have the same shape as in my pictures, then try adjusting them like I described.

If you need another set, then I may have a pair laying around.

I think Fred means he took the slop out at the pins? Shouldn't be the problem. It's just a common issue on all old Fords. It helps to make sure the latch at front of hood is a little further out than you'd first think, so closing it tends to draw the hood forward a little.

Could be that you tightened them up a little too much and they're just in a bind that the springs can't overcome to fully close down.
Seeing that it does go into place when you push down the corners kinda makes me believe they may be too tight.
I was going to do the same to mine (hammer/anvil them tight), I'm now starting to consider this solution.

I think I'll try using some old feeler gauge strips to insert between the hinge arms and the bracket at the pin, maybe .005 or .010, then hammer/anvil it till I have a nice tight fit.
After removing the feeler gauge it should not be sloppy, but not real tight either.

Before tightening the bolts inside in the kick panel, slightley push the hood back toward the windshield, seemed to help when I adjusted mine.
